I get a real kick out of boxes being sold on Evilbay. Some of the prices are truly comedic.

Strangely, to me, there are people out there who value their LGB boxes. Presumably means that they can sell items at a higher price if they come in 'original' packing. I prefer to run and repaint my trains, but that's sacrilege to some collectors, apparently.

If there is a market for something, and folks are willing to pay, we shouldn't be surprised.

Each to his own I suppose.

I *will* buy some items without their original boxes, but much prefer to have the correct packaging.
Makes it easier to store, and transport, as well.

When us baby boomers rediscovered Lionel Trains in the seventies, original boxed items drew higher prices. Like Martino, I alter some of my LGB trains. So whomever inherits my trains will not see the big money if they want to sell them. Oh well.

It is a well known fact that LGB makes more Money in their original boxes. I was selling a couple of surplus LGB Coaches at the 16mm do this year. They never sold but one of the boxes got hoovered up by some scumbag that thought that they should take said box for their item. Sad part of this is that about 10 minutes before Sale Closed Down Box was present and I made the point to one of the supporters to keep an eye on it and keep it with the Coach.

Moral of this story is to put a Label on any Item Selling via this way on Both the Item and the Box. Guy in charge of managing the sale was not in the least sympathetic. This now means that the price will be considerably reduced when I get around to taking the Coach to Glendale.

I tend to think if an item has a box, it may be better cared for, and may be complete.
Right or wrong, I presume the owner may have been more meticulous about the item.
More accurately, I assume folks who discard boxes use the item roughly, especially regarding storage and overall care.

For me, it will be easier to store and protect when not in use.
Unboxed items on ebay are items I skip, unless very rare or meant for a bash.
