Not Exactly A New 'thing' But

I dropped off a HERMES Parcel yesterday 12-30PM at the local parcel shop

It was delivered at 9-00AM this morning around 90 miles away!!

Usually my Hermes despatches take 3 days.

Althoug I did have one to Southampton ( 200m+) which was delivered in 48 Hrs.

I've used Myhermes to send stuff and people I have bought from (including national companies such as John L:ewis) have sent stuff by Myhermes. I've always found that fast and efficient with the local young lady appearing to collect or deliver pretty well anytime between 07:30 and 20:00.

They seem to be perfectly good enough (none are brilliant) and they now do a free e-mail to confirm signed for delivery.

Hermes? I'm on the receiving end (well my son gets the parcels) - not impressed and said so in feedback. Six days (or more sometimes). Even a one armed man paddling a coracle could get across the Irish Sea in half the time. If Royal Mail can do it as if it was mainland UK .......

Having had just a quick look, it appears that Hermes only offer a 4 plus day service to Ireland, so maybe its not surprising that your deliveries take 6 days.

What gets me is the Tracking - seems to take two days to collect from sender, two to get to National Hub, Two to get to delivered. Nothing surprises me these days. Several steps backwards if you ask me. C'est la vie!

Or just pay more for R.Mail. Horses for courses.

Trouble is, Hermes is not my choice - it is the sellers - take it or leave it attitude. So, if I want it, I have to put up with it!

Hermes collect parcels from our local co-op, about 5 mins away, at lunch time, they normally get taken to their main sorting depot overnight, delivered to the delivery depot the next night & are then out for delivery within 48 hours.
Our local post office has been closed, the main PO is a 10 min drive, then a walk across the precinct, then join the queue before the interrogation. It's a no brainer.

That can be a general problem these days. price wins over quality. Covers a lot of things - including trains and postage.

:wait::wait::wait::wait::emo:To clarify my original post.

I use parcel deliveries for both work & Hobby, Until around 18 months ago I always used Royal Mail, but they closed my nearest local PO which was a 5 mile round trip, I then started to use other services, as the next PO option involved a greater distance, parking cost and long waits in the queue,.
The Hermes costs compared with Royal Mail are not actually much different, The drop off point is a local petrol station, so no parking problems and the items always seem to arrive at the Central hub pretty quickly, the example I quoted in the initial post is perhaps exceptional.

One thing to point out if a parcels is Collected from the senders address by a courier then delivery can take 24 hrs longer as the courier may not always be able to visit his/her local depot more than once a day.

Incidentally the local PO has now been reopened in a newsagents shop, but i hardly ever bother ( despite him selling a good range of Railway Mags!) as the service can be painfully SLOW!:wait::wait::wait:

H'mm. Never thought why people chose Hermes for delivery purposes - you do shed a different light on things! Me? I,m impatient!

Considering MyHermes seems to have an extra "layer" of local courier at each end of the process compared to some delivery services, it seems to work well enough for stuff that's sent to me either at home or at work and I can appreciate why senders use them for convenience.

DPD are still my favourite though - I love being able to track the delivery driver in real time going round our part of the county in his van making deliveries. For stuff being delivered to work I usually know it's here before I get the email from our reception desk!

Hermes best for personal - DPD best for business.

We've always been well served by Hermes both as sender and recipient. One advantage when we lived in Sussex was that the local delivery lady kept a mental note of people's work habits, so would do an evening delivery drop - cracker. Now in Norfolk, the collection agent is a local garage, always open.

Mind you, one of our post office's is in another local garage (opposite direction) but Royal Mail parcel prices are stooopid.

DPD tracking and texting is top rate - no one does it better.
