New Storage Shelf and the story of its creation and a little about my Track Cleaning Wagons.

Some time back I created a set of shelves for storing rolling stock at the bottom of my stairs. The site appeared ideal as there was a short area between 2 sets of stairs. Sadly I messed up and made the shelves too long as when I recently started to sort out the woodwork for the Windows in the Stairs the shelves just got in the way. So they needed to be cut back a tadge. I forgot the wood as it was dumped in a shed as possible Log Burner fodderh, then decided that a new shelf was needed in my Tin Shed.

Pic below shows the Shelves as shortened and you can see that they would have gone across the Window.

It had always been planned but I Never had the wood for the shelf. A bit of lateral thinking worked out that the cut pieces could be joined together utilising left over 2/1 timber from the Insulation Work I have been doing. Pic below shows the joined up shelf in situ, wood is routed to Track Gauge for Stock Storage. Shelves above have cheepo Plastic Track and other sundry G Scale Track to sit stock on.image.jpeg
Below shows the Stock that I wanted to be in the Tin Shed, most of my Track Cleaning Wagons / Vehicles. The only other one I have is the LGB Loco Track Cleaner that still sits in its box in the loft, 4.5 years after moving to St.Neots.image.jpeg
Pic below the vehicles in place after having been moved.image.jpeg
Below currently is my new wood store, perhaps in time there may be space for a couple more shelves. Story of how the Wagons moved and what they are to follow.

There is a bit more to this story and that is how I moved the Wagons from one end of the Garden to the other. As ever they were moved in a Railway like way. Today my Battery Operated LGB 0-4-0 loco was on the duty, but first it had to shunt stock out of the Tin Shed (Gernrode) so that the returning train would be able to run round.image.jpegimage.jpeg
Having shunted stock into the yard the loco awaits the right of way to run light to aalexisbad to pick up the 4 wagons. Below running under a clear signal the engine approaches Magdesprung.image.jpeg
Returning with just 2 Wagons, in the conversion to a Battery Loco the LGB Weight was removed to fit in the electronics. Even with 8 batteries the loco is still somewhat lighter than it was. Below running past Sternhouse.image.jpeg
Arriving at Gernrode it is now appropriate to take a look at the vehicles. First is an Aristocraft Track Cleaning Wagon that has had a new scratch built wagon body based on French Light Railway practice, this has replaced the USA Caboose body that the wagon originally came with. The cleaning pad can be clearly seen in the middle of this wagon.image.jpeg
Next up is another type of cleaning wagon, the centre bogie has a set of abrasive wheels that are at a slight angle to the track that causes them to revolve and so clean the rail. Another USA product. I lashed together the somewhat crude wagon that it sits on. The weight is from an old Big Hauler. image.jpeg
The second and final journetpy is with another USA Track Cleaning Product, here seen passing Magdesprung.image.jpeg
And approaching Gernrode with the Bachman Weight on the loco roof to give more traction after it stalled just by the pond.image.jpeg
Looking at this setup there is a 12v Lead Acid Battery that provides power to the two revolving wheels on the Caboose. Well it did before the battery ran completely flat after lack of use, trashing said battery. The set up came from Many New Products, an Ebay purchase.

The garish Yellow UP Caboose realy does not fit in on my line, perhaps this will one day get a new body or maybee it will languish on that bottom shelf forgotten.

Here we can see the Electrical Connection between the Open Wagon and the Caboose together with the control knob that makes the wheels revolve faster if required.image.jpeg
Here you can see the adhesive felt pads that do the cleaning, with some sort of cleaning fluid on I imagine them to be quite effective.image.jpeg
Here you can see the rods that go inside the caboose to the 2 motors that revolve the Pads.

Looks like a track grinder to me. All OK until it stalls!
