New Season on the Somerville & St Francis River

USA standard gauge in the late 1960's, in 1:29th.
Hi guys,

Its been a lovely few days so my father and I managed to venture out into the garden to blow out the cobwebs left over from a fairly harsh winter (well, for Scotland anyway!) We were mainly just checking, testing and repairing to get everything all running sweetly again. Thankfully there wasn't too much to do, just a fair dose of track cleaning! We were also continuing to upgrade all of our joints with Hillman railclamps to improve stability and conductivity, so that has seen great benfits in reduced maintenance.

Thanks for looking,
Gavin

The next few photos show the extension loop that we installed earlier this year, so the line now bypasses the staging yard in the shed. It crosses the deck and continues on a small raised section. This area is going to be kept pretty minimal as it is mainly reserved for my mum's vegetable plots:

These next photos show the top of the garden where we recently widened some of the curves as they just seemed a little too sharp for our longer US stock. We had originally used some R3 on these curves, but using a borrowed Massoth railbender we eased them out to a radius just short of R5. The results are far more pleasing to the eye and fit in with the wide sweeping curves elsewhere in the garden:

We are limited by the foundations of our oil supply tank, but I think the new radius is still smooth enough not to look too severe, and is a still a vast improvement on what was there before!

Thanks again for looking,
All the best,
Gavin
