Well, at long last I started laying track at the beginning of summer, still not done yet, but getting there. Layout will eventually have a single main line, with a reversing loop at each end and a passing loop and siding at the station half way up the garden.

Thanks to the guys who gave me the advice on picasa, looks like it worked!!

The piles of rubbish were mostly dug out from the ground, nicely left by the previous owners.

The damp mark on the wall is where 'gifts' were buried by the old owners, with alot of sand and mud. Lovely.

Have got more than this done, too dark to get more pictures right now. And most of the rubbish is cleared, although found more buried further round. Nice!! :impatient:

oohh another major civil engineering project, looking good love the long straights.

just wish i had the space for them,:bleh: (envy)

Next phase is round the back of the trampoline and onto a large dirt area for the second return loop. Gonna get hard here, as a few tree saplings have started to take root and rhubarb is present, although that won't get destroyed, just eaten.
In some of the pics you can see my engine hoist, great for removing whole plants, bushes and even some trees. Although not good when the rope snaps, left a nice bruise right down my back!!

Impressive project , look forward to seeing more

The correct way to improve a garden

i like the brick cutting!

I had to make the cutting semi temporary, as we rent the house. Everything has to be built in such a manner that if we do have to move I can put it into a presentable state. The bricks are all loose and held in place by the metal tubes, although I'm looking at other methods of supporting them.

The station area, wiring complete and working

Fenced in and slate down, can't believe how much slate it takes to cover small areas

The next job!
Firstly, a bridge over the old path to be built,

then to the back of the trampoline, much vegetation to fight through,

Then onto the area for the return loop, have to find somewhere for all swmbo's pots to go until completed

Good work mate. Like the cutting- that's whtat's fun about a railway in a garden- u have the same challengs as the real thing!

Do you know, even though it's a small cutting, I coudn't believe the amount of earth moving required! When we first started preparing the ground I was worried there was not going to be enough mud to keep things level....well, near the front of the garden I now have this small mountain appearing!!
