Hello all.

As my track will be layed soon, I'm looking at power, I only have a couple of Gaugemaster controllers at the mo. and one of those cuts out after 5 min or so.

So I am going to need a power supply thingy to go with a train engineer. Needs to be decent size for big USA locos.

Will any of these work with G scale trains and TE? if so which would be best?

Also in another thread some one mentioned some sort of DPDT switch?? would I need one of those as I don't know what they do?

Help me Obi wan kenobi I have not got a clue?

Hi

Dont know if this is of any use but maplin do a laptop psu with various voltage outputs it will give you 6.25 amps at 24 volts dc abd is a very reasonable price £59.00 has overload protection short circuit protection and a very stable DC output

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module?moduleno=228947

I have used this with an old LGB outdoor speed control you know the DC ones the newer ones are AC i dont know about TE
It worked great

Regards

Mark

Dave, the first one in your first post would be fine, the second hasn't got a high enough max. voltage and the third is a bit OTT.
I recommend a minimum voltage of 20V DC and a minimum current of 7.5A to get the most out of the T.E. I know the T.E. is rated at 10A, but that's on pulse, it only outputs about 7A linear. Please fit a fan to your T.E. if you haven't already done so.
You won't need a DPDT switch when using a power supply with a T.E. as it is used to reverse the supply, and consequently the train, when using the power supply as a controller by constantly adjusting the output voltage.

Thanks for the quick repsonses.

Mark how would you connect a laptop psu to the TE when its got the charging end??

Neil, Thanks for pointing me in the direction of what I should be looking for. I can assure you the TE does have a fan, it came coonnected already when I brought it off Steve last night.:D That was when Steve advised me about these high tech power thingys rather than standard railway power.

I'll keep looking some one somewhere must sell these cheap?
