Dear All,

Today Bachmann announced their new products for 2013.

For followers of Large Scale Thomas there is going to be Toby, a blue open wagon a raspberry syrup tank and er, .......that is it.

Here is a pdf of the whole 2013 catalogue:
http://www.bachmanntrains.net/Catalogs/2013/2013_Bachmann.pdf

Scroll to page 160 for the Thomas Range. 164 to see Toby and 167 to see the new good stock.
??????
Toby is a brilliant choice, although the catalogue shows only an image of the 00/H0 version at present. Sadly there is no word on a Henrietta to go with it, but maybe that will suddenly appear un-anounced like Emily's coaches did?

In the meantime (well, once it arrives) I guess my Toby will have to haul an old brown mid 70s LGB Match-sided coach until the real Henrietta shows up, or perhaps it will haul the otherwise unemployed (for most of the year) coach from the Chrismas Delivery set?

New open wagons and tanks are always welcome, but surely not as welcome as a new moulding, say a goods van, or cattle truck would have been.

I am still hoping for a Daisy in 2014......

Very Interesting. I think it is safe to say that we won't see these until 2014 though - How many times did they put back Emily Dates? (Now I?ve said that it will be out at the end of the summer!)

Daisy would be nice next year but would prefer Diesel - It has potential!

I dunno about that,

Emily was a large, complex engine, that two different driver size gearbox must have been a bear to fabricate, in contrast Toby is a cracker box on a roller skate, dumb easy to build, and I have to admit maybe the applicable thing for my own layout in ages, I really like that kind of engine :-

Sad, Thomas gets new LS stuff. Nothing really new for LS otherwise, at least until the Enema-ray (NMRA) announcements, I wonder, is a large scale Chuggington to far away? :o:

I'm told Garden Railway Specialists of Princes Risborough have put together a package of suitable conversion/add-on details parts for Emily, to make her into a better representation.

Parts include -

1. Working scale buffers front and rear.
2. Screw-link couplings front and rear.
3. Suitable replacement smokebox door.
4. Vacuum brake pipes set.
5. Steam heating connection sets.
6. Complete replacement backhead with detail incl gauges, pipes, levers, and so on.
7. Brake stand.

Parts are in brass and white metal, with a resin smokebox door.
No connection, a pal who is interested and doesn't do forums was telling me about this kit.

Saw Dave Hub's Emily in action at Solihull on Saturday. There's something about it that's very appealing, it has a real presence and would look fantastic with these modifications. Not really suitable for my railway, but I think we talked Dave into bringing it to the Ruritanian open day in May. It'll look brilliant stretching it's legs up the Pootank Bank - if it makes it?? :nail::nail:

I also saw Dave Hub's Emily at Solihull. I agree both about it's presence and the added value of GRS' extras.
However I had a nagging feeling that something didn't look quite right and after looking at a few photos I think I've found out what's amiss.
The loco isn't a model of No1 in its preserved state. Not a bad thing as Bachmann have supplied the larger tender that these locos used in service and that the NRM hope to recreate in the future. Also the model's large splashers don't have the distinctive holes of No1; but as in service examples had plain splashes from new or plated over holes (including according to the image in the following link No1 herself ) this isn't a problem either.

The one detail that, in my opinion, spoils the model's character is the boiler side and front footplates.
They should be at different levels either side of the splashers and again at the cylinders. I suspect this could be difficult to put right on a detailed model for gauge 1 use. However in fairness to Bachmann their Emily matches the model used for the Thomas the Tank TV series in the footplates and pretty much all other respects.

So Vic, this is interesting. Here I presumed that the two large drivers were the only geared wheels. Would there be a way of seeing some detail of the gearing arrangement?
