Need Help! LGB MTS II wireless - why doesn't it work ? how do i fix it?

We have a LGB MTS II central station / system. We have had the wireless receiver and transmitter for years, but my brother says the protocol or technology is poor. I dont know anything really about the protocol but i've used it in the past and it wouldn't work at all. The components aren't broken, we bought them new. But my brother now is looking for a new wireless dcc simply because the LGB wireless isn't working. Is there a work around for the LGB system or are we stuck spending $400 for a new wireless?

Have a good look at the Aerial Wire, is it rusted or even missing?

Try testing on a short piece of track indoors, the range on the LGB II is not good but with luck you should get 10-30 feet. So could range be the issue?

Presume you have read the instructions and all is plugged in correct?

Is all the rest of your system working OK? If you connect your MTS handset directly to the Central Station using the cable rather than the RC module, does everything then work as it should?
