My new Garratt

30" long and based on two LGB motor blocks she is heavy.
Thanks Andy she is a beauty, impeccable finish and lining out.
For my first run with her she took 50 axles with no trace of slip even starting on a curve. Quite a bit of the stock is heavy and loaded.
Just what I have been looking for.
Andy is in the process of building another version so, keep your eyes open if a Garratt is what you are looking for.

Hi Keith,

Sorry to hijack your thread but how did you bend the rails for the rack incline in the background?

With v great difficulty! It took many attempts to get the transtional bends at the bottom and top. I tried short sections joined with both sliding fishplates and with clamps but had to resort to placing lengths of rail into a vice and bending them then cutting out the appropriate section. I think I made a meal of it and it still is not perfect, it required shaving the undersides of the coupling hooks.
A major part was self inflicted as I have possibly too steep an incline and should have allowed a longer transition.
That has not been my biggest problem though. I have a Crest interval reversing unit but I simply cannot persuade it to work.
Frustrating!

Cheers for the response,

Got the lower end done (needs a new bridge deck before I go further) but the top end needs a sharper transition I was thinking of putting one end of a 300mm length of track on some 2x1 and driving the car along the track to bend it but suspect this may break the sleeper moulding.

I have long thought that those particular chassis / motor blocks would lend themselves to the building of a freelance Garratt. I was obviously right in my assumption. Well done

I removed the track from the sleepers and bent then separately but they are surprisingly tough.
