My latest indulgence 7/8th

I used one of my Stainz locos as a base for my 7/8th scale. I made a new cab out of plasticard plus a Dr Who figure as a driver, which I completely remodelled with a new hat. A new smoke stack was turned out using aluminium. A Massoth S sound unit was used with a pulse generator fitted in the gearbox and a loudspeaker fitted in the fire box. The R/C is a Deltang Rx65-2 with two optocouplers for bell and whistle. I programmed the S sound unit with a 8210014 field steam loco sound, the long whistle is superb. The 12 AA batteries are fitted in the first wagon and connects to the lighting socket on the back of the Stainz loco for the power feed. The wagons are made from two LGB wagons and the tops are from the LGB42430 normal LGB tipper trucks and the chassis and small wheels are from the LGB Feldbahn LGB49190 range. I used a Spektrum 6i transmitter as my club track is 500 feet long and at one section is behind bushes and trees and therefore goes out of sight and range of the normal park transmitters that lose their signal.

Have to say Stainz makes a super 7/8 Conversion. I have always thought that the Lagab Tippers were on the Large Size, but just right for the larger scale with your mods. Great job. Will you have started another trend on LGB Bashing?

Thanks for the praise guys much appreciated! The 7/8th scale cab makes it easier to fit a decent sized speaker in the larger firebox. This set up has been a great success at my local steam club with lots of people admiring the synchronised sound and the unusal scale.

Wow!
Great feel and proportion and plausibility.
As mentioned, love how the always slightly large tippers, wheels etc suddenly look perfect.
And, im very impressed with your figure mods. Really great. Good eye you have!

Still processing exactly what you did with the sand box (i know its smaller than stock) and steam dome, as the boiler seems to be the same length, but the position of both domes seems shifted.

Hi stevedenver
A very easy mod for 7/8 scale. The boiler dome and sand box are all standard. As I said I just made a new cab and fire box and slid it on the boiler and fixed it at the back with the normal two screws. The smoke stack was turned at the bottom the same as the LGB one with the nut to hold it to the boiler, I just extended the length at the same angle.

Nice work:):):), I really like what you did with the figures they are always the hardest part to get right, who makes them?

Alan just look on eBay for Dr Who figures, you can pick them up for £2-£5 each just paint them and make a hat from plasticard and you have a 7/8 figure.
