Hi all
Ive been thinking its dangerous I know but...............
Looking for either a 150mm long motor block (or near as ;) ) or a 110mm one
If you know where one could be obtained then let me know ;)

stainz one any good?
a bare one without any rods is about 125mm
have a couple of clamshell ones without rods

Just had a look at mine and looks to be 80mm so at the mo no :( but things could be modified so will bear it in mind

Yup... Im after 150mm centres ;) but as i said things could be changed

nothing that size but i got stainz clamshells that have been stripped and serviced if you can alter it

Ed - Modell-Land sell the complete chassis and gearbox assembly from the new KoF, which is definitely a lot longer wheelbase than the "standard" LGB motor block, for 100 Euro (well, actually 99.99...), which works out at about 80 quid - quite a good price for a factory-fresh unit. It's here:

If you are thinking of one, talk to me before ordering - we might be able to do a joint order soonish......

Further to previous post, Ed, just checked - wheelbase of KoF block is 110mm (which was one of the sizes you asked about)... not sure you'll easily get anything much longer than that, unless perhaps a big USAT 6-wheel truck with the middle axle removed...?

The 6 wheel blocks from the Aristocraft and USAtrains six axle diesels are all in this range if you delete the centre wheels, but none are exactly 150mm.

The simplest solution would be to take an aristocraft A29355 block from the class66 and friends, and remove the centre wheels (you can do this from outside), leaving the end axles with a wheelbase of about 144/145mm. It's also the most expensive.

Somewhat cheaper would be a similar idea based on a USAt block (R22-422 from the SD40-2 or R22-625 from the SD70, the main difference between the two types is wheel diameter), but this is more complex in practice - you need to diassemble the block to remove the centre axle, and add some external framing to lock up the block's hinged joint. getting it all back together with the internal UJ's lined up is a swine.

Neither of the above is suitable for R1 curves, they are really only happy on 4ft radius (LGB R3) and above.

Similar surgery on a USAt PA block or Aristo E8 unit will liberate something in the 160-165mm area.

The longest unit I can think of that's R1 friendly is the 6 coupled block from the Piko Br80 tank - removing the centre axle is fairly simple, and the end result is 114mm wheelbase.

Sounds a bit nasty. No need for such measures, you just unscrew the bottom plate and take the unpowered centre axle out. You might have to remove and replace the contact strips along the way, can't remember, but that's easy too. If you want, I can supply one already reduced to 0-4-0 configuration..

Sorry to break in on this thread, but if any one has a spare wheel set for a USAT bogie, then I'm after one please....
