Hello everyone. First post, I've been a member for a while but just to look at what you were all doing, very inspiring some of the things I've seen here!

I was going to post some pictures of the construction of my line in the G scale pictures section but I can't seem to include them directly in the post or through uploading them to an album.

When I try to post a picture directly from my own files it says there has been a security error, and when I try to upload to an album, it appears to load but no pictures appear in the album.

Any input is appreciated, as I would really like to get some feedback on my project to date. I'm most likely forgetting or overlooking something obvious, but as with many things, a different perspective often reveals the solution!

Best regards,
Eoin

Welcome Eoin, can't help on the technical stuff re the pics I'm afraid but I'm sure others will chip in shortly who can..... will look forward to seeing your photos when the problem is solved!

Hello Eoin,

I too suffer occasionally from pictures failing to load - I don't know if it is sometimes an Internet problem (like speed of download or upload), but I have found that picture format - like jpeg or png - is important.

So is size however. I find that pictures sized at around 450Kb are an ideal size. I'm using Windows 10 (and that drives me mad) and often, if I have to edit or crop, they fail to appear - only the file name shows. When this happens, I delete that file name and go back into Upload a File to select the picture. I then click on the pic and convert to a png - that usually works (but not always!).

There are many on here with far more knowledge and will point you towards an easy resize app like they did me (I just cannot remember where it is on this forum!).

Hope you get it sorted and I look forward to seeing your work. Which county are you in?

Hi TramMayo,

Thanks for that advice, I will try changing the format and resizing. At the moment they are .jpg so I will try .jpeg and then .png.

As for where I am from, that would be sunny West Clare, hence the name of my line, a fictitious modern day off shoot of the West Clare. I will try and come up with a more detailed bio of the line later once I have my photos sorted.

Thank you again for your advice, I will give it another go now.

Regards,
Eoin

Welcome Eoin, you'll get all the advice you need here, and some you didn't know you needed!

Thanks for the welcome fellas, looking forward to being a bit more active now that I have something built.

Just one thing - as I'm clueless with IT - jpg and jpeg might be the same!
If you don't mess about with pics (I do because I'm useless with camera) then you might just get away with resizing!

When I posted my original reply, I thought it might be West Clare afterwards!

Most of the time .jpg and .jpeg are treated the same but sometimes programmes or processes are a bit finicky with the format you use. I ended up resizing and converting to .png using MS Paint and there were no more problems, so you were very much on the money with your suggestion.

I will post an album now shortly in the g scale pictures section.

Welcome, Eoin. I always right-click on the image, then use 'Open with' to open it in Paint. Then 'Resize', 'pixels' to about 600x450. Than Save As jpeg.

Are you modelling 3ft gauge?

Welcome aboard Eoin.

That's exactly what I did, worked like a charm.

Yes 3ft gauge, I never considered anything else. I went through the typical Hornby OO phase when I was younger but narrow gauge has much more appeal, especially when the West Clare is only over the road.

Welcome to the forum Eoin....

Thank you all for the welcome messages, it is very encouraging. I am very much looking forward to sharing the growth of my railway with the forum going forward.
