Massoth XLS Distorted Sound

Hi All,

I have an XLS decoder fitted to a BR218. It runs ok and the sound works but is distorted. I tried it on another speaker but the result was the same. :(

Hence I now come to the collective brains of the forum for advice.

I have previously once had to do a reset of the motor functions as i lost the ability to control the speed. As soon as it started moving it quickly got to full speed. Using JMRI i did a reset and all is now well. Not sure if the sound issue coincided with this issue.

My thinking is that the sound file needs to be downloaded again?

I bought the decoder with the sound installed so don't have the where with all to do this.

Any suggestions?

Martin

Muns (Mark of Gardenrailoutlet.co.uk) is your man. If he doesn't parachute onto the thread just pm him. He is the guru on all things Massoth.

There is a CV that selects the Chip for Piko rather than LGB I am pretty sure that I read it on this Forum. I used it for my 2 Piko locs and they are both OK. Will try to look for it for you unless someone has a better memory.

I am not aware of any specific Piko vs LGB related CV for the XLS. Looking at the german Massoth forum where they (Massoth) installed a XLS decoder in a Piko BR194, Harzkamel and a TEE, they did only change the CVs for the lights.
If both loudspeakers are ok, it has to be something wrong with the sound file or the decoder.

I did find this information though, which is not sound related but has to do with the driving characteristics.

Optimilization XLS for Piko motor
CV3=10 (Acceleration time)
CV4=10 (Braking time)
CV61=150 (Lastregelung: Nachregelverzögerung)
CV63=63 (Lastregelung: Schwelle + Regelzeit)

As Cliff says, try turning the volume down..
If there is a volume Pot, easy.. Else CV 200 controls volume:
CV200 = 32 full volume
try CV200 = 12 (just under half volume)
If there is a Pot fitted, then CV200 should be set to 255.

Thanks for all the messages. Out of UK one a business trip so unable to test any of the suggestions.

I will check out the values I have for the motor CVs.

I don't think it is too much volume as my previous experience with an XLS on another loco is that unless you reduce the volume quite substantially it is like having the real thing in your back garden!!!

I am coming round to thinking that I will have to download the sound files again.
