Massoth pulsed smoke generator with S decoder.

Hey. Just looking for advise on installing a pulsed smoke unit to a S decoder. It's the older square version. I have it hooked up and working connected via track power.
Im now wanting the pulsed part to work with my S decoder. Checking the manual it states it needs connecting to the A3 on the S decoder to get the pulsed gen to work. Is there a way of knowing what wire goes where on the S as they are all black. I have taken a look inside the gen, one wire with my crappy soldering (wire looks like it came off when opening or is not ment to be connected?) looks as if it connects to the fan.

It's shown on page 7 in the manual for the current model, if you have an older model you need to consult the manual for that version.
The order from left to right on the connection to the pulsed smoke unit for the current model is: GND, Clock, Not in use.

That's great thanks. I had found that on my instructions today hidden. 20231126_113622.jpg seem to be different. I have soldered to the A3 and GND on the S decoder and plugged into the input on the smoke.

My next issue is my S decoder won't read or wright apart from the loco address. Decoder is isolated from others. When I try either I get an X on the navi.

I'm trying to right cv 114 to 30 as instructions say. But I can't read any cv's apart from cv1. The S decoder was programmed by muns muns a couple of years ago when his shop was open. I can't tell if its locked. All other decoders work.

If you have an older S decoder it requires a speaker attached in order to do the programming.
It is strange that you only can change CV1. However, you can try to turn off the programming lock by setting CV15=145, which is the standard lock value for S decoders.
 
If the decoder is locked you can't read any CVs. You need to write to CV15 and try to set it to 145.
 
Got it all working in the end. I hooked the pulse to the L decoder on the A6 channel and set cv120 to 1. I also managed to read the cvs on the S Decoder by digging out my Spogg. Not sure what was up with the navi. Thanks for the help its chuffing away now.

Next to fit it in the Rack loco. Some mods to the sound cover should sort it.
 
If there's a Read or Write CV problem with Massoth DCC decoder, consult the specific decoder's manuals, in this case the Massoth Configuration Manual XLS/XLS-M1/XLS-Onboard/LS/S/S-PluG. A Massoth DCC decoder will not Read or Write any CVs if it's Locked. If you don't know what the Lock values of CV15 and CV16 to unlock the decoder, then you can Reset the Programming Locks using the Reset process of CV7 = 16 which will reset both CV 15 and CV 16 back to the factory default setting. Since there are different factory default settings for CV15 and CV16 for each Massoth decoder, you'll see in Massoth S Installation Manual the Default Factory Settings for CV15 and CV16 are 145.

By the way, I learned this the hard way when I had a problem getting a Massoth LS DCC Sound Decoder to Read or Write CVs. I did a full Service Programming Mode for the CV7 Reset using CVs 55, 66, 77, 111, 122, and 133 and still the decoder would not Read and Write CVs. I tired it both on my Massoth DCC Programming Track and then on my Massoth PC Programming Module and still no luck. Thinking it was defective, I shipped the decoder to Massoth Germany for Warranty Service and was told that the only problem was it was Locked! I got charged for the "repair" and return shipping for them to unlock the decoder! So, Lesson Learned, when you want to do a full reset on a Massoth decoder, always include CV16 with the other Reset values!
