Hi guys,

I just noticed that the new firmware for the Navigator is out after much anticipation. O0

Some really nice features like ability to use up to 28 functions, loco takeover, loco database sorting, more programming options etc. etc.
I'm not sure how many of the new features I'll be able to use since I'm still using an MTSIII central station, but I've asked the question on the forum.
Maybe we can use this thread to share our experiences with the new firmware--there's a lot there to absorb.

Keith

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the heads up on that!

Do you know if they ever sorted out the problems with reverse running under the consisting control? Previously there was no way to set the running direction for each loco in a consist, and thus all engines had to facing the same way, thus preventing and A-B-A lash-up of F units for example.

Thanks again,
G

Could you not 'work-around' the problem with the 'direction' bit in CV29 for the duration of the consist??

Phil,

You are right of course that it is possible, but it's just annoying that's all! I mean on other DCC systems it's a standard feature, even on Aristo's Revo controller there is something similar. It would just be nice as everything else Massoth seem to do is great! Only other thing is that I imagine some of the lighting effects would need to be changed too as the loco effectively has a new direction? It's not a major issue to be honest but it would be nice to have that option.

G

Ah, lighting!!
Tends to be 'wrong' anyway, as you would only use 'headlights' on the rear of an engine if it was running light-engine.. 'Headlights' on an engine (as opposed to the whole formation) would be a no-no, surely.

In a consist, would it not be that only the front-most engine would be running with 'headlights' anyway?

Yeah, exactly! I mean in other systems they have something called "advanced consisting" which seems to offer much more control over the whole consist. I've never used and only read about it, but it appears that you can control direction as well as light functions for each loco to avoid the problems you mentioned. It would just be a really nice feature if you could set how each loco behaves in the consist without the need to change its basic settings!

I assume that we can use the PC Module (Massoth art. no. 8175101 USB version or the older RS-232 version), see page 10 and 11 in the instruction manual. However, Massoth does state that they recommend their central station for the update. The reason for this is unclear to me.

They want to sell you a Central Station, perhaps??
:o ;) :D ;D

I *think* (from memory, at the moment) you can download the Navigator firmware into the Central Station, and then it is available for all the Navigators you have..
I also seem to remember 'something' about the serial version of the PC Module??

Though I have been to bed since then, so might be making it all up!! ;)
Will do a bit of research on this.. Will also be at GRS Wednesday, so will see what their take on it is.

or you ask a freindly retailr, mums garden rail outlet.., or paul, at p+S hobbies, or otheres who help you

Has anyone tested the new update for this...
Does the new firmware update now allow consisting with locos in any orientation or is it still a case of having to change the CV of a loco everytime it is in a consist and then used on its own?

Just asking again if anyone has found out about consisting locos with this update?

Hi guys,
I was able to update my wireless receiver and navigators through the Massoth PC module, since I am using a MTSIII central station. There seem to be some undocumented features of the update, such as eliminating the use of the loco select button (zero key in bottom right corner) so now you have to use the menu keys. I think this is much better since it's very easy for a guest operator to accidentally hit that button then not know how to re-select the loco. As for the consisting setup, I can't comment for sure because I don't use that feature...but there were some other programming features that weren't documented either so maybe it's one of them. Maybe Mark can tell us?

Hi guys,
I updated my wireless receiver and navigators yesterday. I managed to get the Special Modes A2 : Loco takeover allowed and Database sorting to work OK. BUT consisting locos is the same, so unless I've missed something!! The update hasn't addressed the issue.

:( :( Shame about the consisting! :( :(
It is strange that LGB MTS had consisting, Massoth made the LGB kit, and then forgot to include the function in their own brand kit and have never updated it to include the option.
Still they obviously seem not to think that folk actually use consisting! Very strange.

If anyone would like their Navigator and RC Receiver updating to v1.9 firmware and you are attending G Rail on Sunday 23rd March, bring them along to the GRO stand and I will update them for you at no cost.

You are a perfect gent Mark. Will do....

Ditto for me, many thanks Mark, that is service above-and-beyond etc!
If it's OK, will bring 2 Navvies (one standard, one longrange) and my receiver.

I think I'll be buying some bits and pieces from you anyway!

Jon.

Thanks Mark - book me in please.

That really is a tremendous offer Mark.
I saw someone else post about a receiver. As you know I use LGB MTS3 but have the Massoth wireless receiver. Should that be updated as well ?
