Was in my local branch yesterday and in their offers brochur was a natty little Swann KeyFob Video Camera & Recorder for £29.99. Sounds like just the thing for those Front of Train Vids. Spec says 720x480 colour AVZi vid files with up to 25 mins recordng on a micro 2gb sd card but supports up to 8gb cards.

Anyone got one and can link some of the vids you have done?

I've got one Jon, not from Maplins but exactly the same. Here's a couple of vids I've done with it. As you can see it's small enough to fit in the cab of a steam loco and the quality is better than I expected. The most difficult thing is ensuring it's filming what you want it to as you can't see what it's pointing at until you download the images.

Yes they charge from USB. We've got various USB charger wall-warts (for cameras, MP3 players etc.) which also do the job without having to have a PC on.

As you may recall I opened a thread on these in 2010 - including the first of my W&ARR films (see in my signature section below) ... I even have one without the pesky date stamp now... won't say too much about the price though, except perhaps that Maplin's aren't the best value around.... but handy!

Many thanks guys, not sure how I missed all your replies to now but hey I remembered my post and wondered if anyone had replied. Love the vids but think that the cab shots are the most effective use of the Mini Cams. How nice to see the Double Header taken in Cardiff, not sure if I have seen that before. So many people with live steam just appear to be intent on getting their 20 minutes run. Its like they will never get to run again, so this bit of film was a real gem.

Having read this thread with intrest I decided to take the plunge and shelled out a whopping £5.90 for one off Ebay , free postage as well, so here is my first attempt , what it does show is how the trackbed has settled in the seven years the railway has been running, its a bit rollercoaster like in places but hey this is Blackpool !

Nothing wrong with the video quality, especially at that price!! Presumably the sound is as recorded on the camera?

Yep, sound recoded on the camera
