London Boxing Day?

Hi All,

So I find myself in London on boxing day this year.

I have been told that the UK is still "mostly closed" on 26 Dec unlike the US but that this is changing in places. Does anyone know - are there any train shops in London open on the 26th? (Any good ones for G scale products to recommend?) (Too much to ask for a boxing day sale? ;) )

Thanks!
Josh

Hi Josh,

While it's true that the big stores and supermarkets will be open on Boxing Day, unfortunately most smaller places like model shops will almost certainly be closed. As Andy says, there really isn't anywhere in London itself that stocks much G anyway - most of the G traders tend to be in odd locations in some smaller towns, I think the nearest is probably Kent Garden Rail in Orpington, Kent - I think this is the only G specialist inside the M25 ring. The next nearest is probably Garden Railway Specialists out in Princes Risborough, Bucks.
If you're staying a couple of days, maybe you could get out to one of those - but if you're really only in town for Boxing Day itself then I'd just do the touristy thing and enjoy the sights.

Jon.

The nearest to central london are Kent Garden Railways in Orpington or Chalk Garden Railways in Gravesend, Both not open to Thursday.
And Chances of you getting a Train out of London this week, are limited because of Engineering works.

So how did Josh get on I wonder?..............................
