LGB steeplecab locomotives

Hi, I’m looking for a LGB steeplecab locomotive, pantograph type not bow collector. I‘m not too worried about condition, as it’s going to get a repaint and be ‘Americanised’, but I’d like it to be working. Please no silly EBay prices.
Cheers

I'm not saying that any of my three are available, but it would be useful to know whether you are analogue (so a 3-pin motor block is okay) or DCC (ideally needing a 4-pin motorblock, with or without a decoder).

Cheers

Hi David,

Analogue for this layout as I want to run from the overhead as well as diesels running from both rails.

Cheers

ps, my previous O gauge layout was DCC sound.

So I have 2 in my loft, one green around 10 years old the other Red somewhat older. So will post pics later to see if they interest you, both I think have bow collectors but I have pans can they be stopped out easily?

Hi John,
Thanks for the pics. It’s always a bit difficult knowing what to offer as I’ve seen some of the outlandish prices on eBay. The two I have cost me in the region of £250, around £125 each. So, I’ll make that my opening gambit…
I wouldn’t need the decoder or the bow collector and would like the panto to be swapped for this please. Obviously, postage would be added to the price.
Btw, that’s a fantastic layout you have in your garden, I spent quite some time yesterday afternoon watching the YouTube video of it.
Cheers

Happy with your offer. Martin, they are both yours, will do jobs and pack them up to get a postal cost to you in next day or so. As I do the jobs presume you want the all Silver Pan fitted?

That’s brilliant news John, thank you. Yes please, the silver pan. I did hear that the bow collector was a dummy and not connected to pick ups. I’m not sure how true that is, but if it is, can you please wire this up in the same fashion as LGB do with the switchable ones? If that’s stretching in a bit, no worries, I will try to sort it out when they arrive.
I shall await your post with the full cost. Please let me know how you want paying, PayPal F&F or BACS? Obviously I’ll need some details from you, but when you are ready I’ll send you my address for posting.
cheers

Ok yesterday I removed the chip and swapped out the pan on the green one, the wire is through the cab to fit under the screw in the base of the pan. There are 3 positions on the switch by one of the doors in the cab, your current ones should have that. The 3 way switch is track power on/on lights/overhead with one wheel to power and the pan to the other power. Could not get this working, not sure there is much wrong in there. But it works ok with the switch on 2 rail and lights all on.

Hi John, it’s a strange system I think. The tool box, or it looks like that on the roof should be nearest you with the rail furthest away from you connected live and the other connection to the pan. From memory there is a red dot on the underneath that indicates which rail side should not be powered. This enables two rail pickup for non o/h locos at the same time. If you can’t get it to work, don’t worry, I’m sure I will figure it out. The switch inside should be at the top for O/H pickup.

Dunnyrail If you have redundant/spare bow collectors and you want to sell them please contact me, I am in need of some for my ever-expanding tramcar fleet !

Hi Jon,

Some pics of the converted steeple cabs on my fledgling layout in the loft.

#5 is your old red one. #1 is an early one I bought some time ago. The green one I bought is currently awaiting a visit to the works and paintshops.

Cheers

Very nice job Martin, the replacement handrails certainly lift the look as does the well executed paint job.

Very remiss of me, I missed the handrails, and they do look good.

#3 is now completed and will be ready for revenue service from tomorrow. I’m really loving these steeplecab electrics…

Cheers

Hm so if you have not swopped the pans this will be the former green one?

Nice job again, good to see you are keeping a house colour for your line. Something a lot are not brave enough to do, being too concerned with resale value. In my mind your repaints and brass details have added value. But of course needs to be done well as you have.
