Rather than hi-jack Tim O'Brien's thread which requested advice about fitting a decoder to a Stainz, I will continue here.
Mike Silky asked if the Head and Tail lights were still directional after fitting the LGB 55021 decoder. I tested mine on the layout and I had no lights. I couldn't select them on either using the '9' key , using my Universal Remote.
Having installed the decoder to my Stainz, the only thing I did was change the address to 2.
Last year, I brought a LGB 55045 Decoder Programmer from the Stainzmaster, but I hadn't got around to trying it out, so following Mike's question, I read out the CV values.
CV 52/53 are the settings for direction and these were set correctly for 128 & 64 respectively. However CVs 49/50 are for the lamp voltage settings, 5 for 5 V lamps and 26 for 19 V lamps.
I
may have blown my lamps as the setting was 32, but I've now changed it to a value of 5.
However, I've now run out of time to continue further, as I'll be getting ready for work soon, so I'll post the results here, as and when I get around to checking the loco on the layout....
