Anyone have a clue what this is ? It looks like a motorised coach with some cab ends fitted to me, is it a genuine LGB model , I have certainly never seen the like before but then I haven't seen everything ???

I saw that come up before. Doesn't look like the body was originally related to the chassis, so not sure where it comes from. The green has been poorly masked and sprayed. Could be from some cheap toy, or possibly even hand-made from plastic sheet as some of the rounded windows look a bit rough.

Can tell you now that it's not made by LGB ;)

Chassis looks like it could be a Whizzy Cranks with the Cranks removed.

Body possibly Converted Cheepo Toy or Hand Made, has an Italian Prototype look and Colour to me.

Why not ask the guy?

Looks to me like an LGB Austrian bogie coach body with scratchbuilt ends, an overlay (plastic?) over the sides, and put on a power chassis of some sort - JonD's guess above of a 2095 whizzy-cranks could well be right.

I'd like to see the "original box" that the seller claims it has..... ;)

Actually, looking at the seller's name my guess is that he's a professional eBay commission seller of other people's stuff, so chances are he won't actually know anything about it.....

Might be worth a punt if it doesn't go too high? At worst, you get a couple of motor blocks out of it, admittedly probably old-style clamshells (from the look of the skate screws).

I'm not convinced there are two powered bogies? Although there are pickups at both ends, the wheels look different.
I suppose it's a fair effort at making that style of railcar, but would look better if the body sat lower on the chassis.

The Railcar is not a bad attempt at a two thirds scale length model of one of the OBB Class 5090 Narrow Gauge Diesel Railcars. ...
Yeah, that was the kind of thing I thought of when I saw the model.

I wonder if the height might be an indication that it is NOT something like a 2095 chassis, but instead simply a pair of old type power blocks replacing the standard bogies on a coach chassis? Still think the thing is based on a standard 3062-type OBB coach body with overlays and new ends....

Jon.

Actually, if the number on the front of the model is to be believed then it's intended to represent an OBB 5047 (though rather foreshortened):

Looking closer at photos of an LGB wizzycranks 2095 (I don't actually own one), it does look like the model in question has used motor blocks from a 2095 as the frame detail looks the same, however I'm fairly sure the ebay model has plastic wheels fitted at one end?

Anyway, the auction seems to have generated a lot of discussion on here, so I hope the seller is successful!

Thanks for the pic of the 5047, Nick - yes, I'd say that's what the builder was going for, and the "rubber ruler" modification to the length is nothing worse than LGB themselves have done in the past! ;)

The frames on the motor blocks (and thus most likely the blocks themselves) are definitely 2095, with the cranks removed - wonder what he did with the cranks, they seem to be quite sought after these days (someone was wanting a pair on here just a short while ago?). My comment about not using the 2095 CHASSIS was exactly that - I suspect that rather than using the complete 2095 underframe, which of course has both power blocks recessed into it, he's simply mounted the power bogies under the original coach chassis which would account for the overall ride height - the coupler height would still be fine as they are mounted on the power bogie frames.
I'm sure that both ends are powered and have metal wheels - I think the shadows in one of the pictures make one set of wheels look darker (and hence like plastics), but if you look at the full side view pic you can see shiny tires on both.

Looking at your prototype pic, I'd actually say this isn't anywhere near as bad a job as some people first thought?

That is what I thought, it's still on at £1.04 8)

As a basis for improvement, I might have a punt at this one..
Especially as SWMBO is not here to keep me in check! ;) :D ;D ;D

Went for £41 in the end...

When it got to £30+, I decided all you more effluent people were having a go, so didn't bother..

Mind you, I have enough to get on with without another UFO! ::) ;) :D ;D ;D

I would have thought that as you said you were having a punt, GSC members would have held back from bidding Phil?

And I guess the winner is not on this forum....

At £41 is was probably a good buy, even if you just stripped it for the two (old) drive blocks.... mind you there was also the little matter of £20 shipping to add is it was in Germany!

Still, someone got themselves a reasonable bargain.

Jon.
