LGB Motor

One of the motors on my LGB 21510 is not only drawing 1.3A but leaves that particular smell of melting electrics after a run. Seeing as the other motor draws 0.28A my suspicion is that the motor is past its best.
Before rushing into the purchase od a replacement does anyone happen to have a working replacement ?

Or even the knowlwedge to repai it.

Ort even experience of running the 21510 with only one power bogie.

Out of curiousity Jeff what is the year that diesel was made? The reason I ask is that there seems to be a period during which there were lots of premature Buhler motor failures. It's around the time the first series of blue crocs came out-- I believe it was 2001.

The loco was a second hand "bargain" bought to convert to battery power and radio control, with sound as well because of the space available inside the hoods. My stab at its age is that the LGB OK sticker hasthe number 901116 which could mean 16 November 1990. I am not entirely sure that a life of 23 years could be described as premature though. A bit like those terrible sixties buildings that are now 50 yers old and still serving their purpose !

Thanks for the link - a confirmation that it is drawing too much power is a great help, and now I can try to fix the motor as described without fear oeing responsible for breaking the thing.

I believe it's a '96 loco, either 1 Nov or 11 Jan....

November (19)96. The formula is yddmmy, but the dd bit is always 01, whatever the year/month.

Thanks everyone - the motor has been stripped down, cleaned up as described and now runs at 0.15A free and 0.24A in the bogie.
