LGB Genesis lighting query

Which lights should be lit on these locos?

I've just reassembled a friend's LGB Genesis loco after doing a small amount of work on it.

On test I noticed that the white lights were directional but the four red ones (two at each end) were lit at all times. I haven't messed with the wiring so it must have been that way before I started work. To me it seems odd to display both red and white lights on the front of a train but I'm not familiar with American practice.

I'm confident that I could rewire the lighting but I don't want to do this if the present arrangement is true to prototype

Hi Neil
The LGB Genesis does have the front red lights on all the time. The rear white ones come on when reversing.

I think they are marker lights, rather than tail lights.

Greetings Neil

they are not marker lights (not meant to be rude or confrontational)

no red is displayed on front end locos

only the front white lights and all number lights should be lighted
no red to the rear unless running light, or at the back of a consist

what LGBOA did, clearly, is utilize the F7 boards, with its classification light circuit, and applied it, wrongly, to the Genesis-

don't know if it was left over stock to be used, or in line with the low price these were oringally offered, and cost saving in design and or components, or, more likely, some one who simply engineers and builds models, not understanding more.

a fix would be to break the circuit trace to the red leds and add a diode
a fix might be, sorta, (in my little-kid-who-likes-lights mind) two way LEDs, red /white or, red /green (no such prototype of either config on gennys-white/ red would be most plausible)

pulled mine apart once,
because this really bothered me......t

and thought better of it, as it sounds easier than it was, for me and my skill level at least.
I was afraid of destroying the board, as everything is integrated and very tight clearances and fit-soldering will be delicate as a result

boards cost a lot too if you can find them

left all of mine stock, it it aint broke......but it does bother me

Thanks Steve,

May main concern was that I might have made an error with reassembly and/or it was from a faulty batch, especially as it wasn't mine. It's now been returned to its owner with the LGB factory standard configuration.
