So does it run well
Well no not realy it is missing the connection rod but I should be able to make some out of Brass or Aluminium.
As for the running it moved but was not happy on the analoge test track.
So take it apart.

So all this on Sunday Night.

Quick look around the Tinternet sequres a replacment part form Germay postage more that the part :D
Payed paypal Sunday Night had nice email in German to say payment recived and part despatched 11.05 Monday morning.
What can I say quick yes just wating for the part to come in the post.

Plans to mod this repaint detail fit DCC and sound over time so cannot wait for part to come.
Have had a land grab in the garden for the KLM railway :D:D:D:D(SWIMBO was supportive must have been good) so this new guy will have a job to do in the newly planned loco and goods yard.

keep up the good work mark, it looks like the motor/belts not been seated corectly

£25?

Bargain....

Just make sure the quartering of the wheels is accurate. You don't want to strip the cogs. (I speak from experience of buying a 2nd hand one of these). Though Jeremy sorted me out the spares!

cool little loco-
i love the FRR stuff! and i think you got a great deal-
over here they sell for stupid prices-even the diesels
the wheels sets are available-the cog belt-not to my knowledge

i think, based on the main worm gear pic that you posted, and the center area of teeth being so worn away-that loco has been pulling far more of a load than it should have -cant see the one in the back but is it also so worn-otherwise you can swap, as only one axel is driven by the motor worm gear-the other by the cog plastic toothed belt
these little diesels are quite heavy , much much more so than the steam versions, and CAN pull because of the stout weight under the hood-but the drive trains are not robust at all

if you use a 'real' outside rod to drive the second set of wheels, id consider a bushing for a good fit -and again caution to keep the load light

what color are you considering?

this started life a very bright royal blue body, red chassis with silver roof- LGB "Johny"-the first FRR diesel digital decoder equipped version

i bought a total of 3 on close out-then at the price of $120 US

couldnt stand the color ....so this is what i tried on one...

inspired by JRinTawa,
and always trying to keep things "LGB" ish when making mods,
I added stock LGB lanterns and bright LEDs wired directly to the track pick ups

i wonder if you could find a stock nylon gear to replace the worn one on the axel -i was simply thinking that you might be able to find a gear better able to withstand the wear, as well as re-using the original axels

cant wait to see what you do...
heres mine-

Oooh, nice bargain.
I endorse the comments about overloading. A mate of mine stripped the teeth on his simply by accidentally running into a set of buffers and leaving the loco skidding for a short while.
Looking at your pictures the wheels haven't had much wear but with both gears stripped it's been overloaded at least twice, the motor only engages with one axle, so they must have been swapped over after the first gear stripped.
If there's any doubt about the quartering I suggest leaving the rods off, the toothed belt links the axles and is best not overstrained.

Hi Steve

Not sure about all the mods yet will only be used for light shunting dutes thanks all for you advice.
Might leave off the tie rods as people have suggested.

Have found a supplier for the belts if of use for you.

using google translate as I do not speak German but they have them listed on thier website links might not work with google translate so se direction below

Click Ersatzteile LGB form the list on the left hand side 7th item down
Then Click on VerschleiBteile in the red box in the centre
for the motor spare parts scroll down to the belts part no. CL30304 for Feldbahnloks belt, 2 pcs LGB ® 20140/296

hope this is of use

Hi Paul

Thanks slowly building the loco rosta to a respectable fleet.

Overloading is a total no-no on this loco and also the belt driven Chloe steam and the field steam loco. Some years ago, LGB, through LGB of America, would warrant repairs only if a maximum of two (yes just two) field cars were towed maximum.

There was a very long thread some years ago on another site whereby the owner of one of these diesels had untold tales of misery and failure to the point that LGBoA refused to further warrant/service the locomotive.

Even though LGB stated a maximum of two field cars ionly, they did offer circa-2002, this loco with six field cars as a collector set. Figure that out!!!

easy .. its a collecters set.. so it wont get used:bigsmile::rolf::rolf:

I won this set at auction last weekend, just waiting for it to come, do you think it will be ok pulling 5 of the green tippers up a gradual incline?

I put metal wheelsets on my green tippers. I found that oiling the axles makes a big difference to how easily they run. I only use them with bigger locos so can't say how well the Feldbahn locos would do with 5 of them.

Personally, I would not recommend this loco on any grades, let alone hauling five cars. Ensure spares availability before 'overloading' this loco, as it is very fragile.

agreed-
Rich what a great collection of FRR items!-those two tall sided brown items look like hartland peices with double walls-ie stacked to make the ore style bin-and thats a very handsome loco you won-it should come , i think, if still complete , with a sticker sheet of various builders "plate" ie Deutz , orenstein, etc to put on the loco

imho these items including the loco greatly benefit from lubrication-i use teflon grease on the belt and it makes them a bit quieter, and i too lube the wheels

5 up an incline is what concerns me-
simply, it wont kill the loco immediately , but enough running and you will probably have the same issue as did the original poster with his purchase (FWIW the very same type of wear happens to overloaded stainz-but it takes a lot more because both axels connect with worms instead of only one -i know because i bought one on ebay a while back, not knowing it had been hauling cinder blocks or the like....-but obviously parts are a lot easier to obtain-or a new loco for that matter)

i think the issue is how much of an incline and how long you will be running -and that the cars are empty
i HAVE run, in the past, 3-5 GF gondolas or open observation bench cars behind chloe or olomano or the diesel-at my peril-and up (and down again-ad nauseum) a 1-2 % incline-but typically only half an hour tops at any given session-i no longer do this because i really love the little locos and want them to last

i think 5 on the flat, on clean track, probably no issues if you dont make it a habit, and R1s do add a good deal of drag-which means wear as well-broader will reduce wear as well, even with the closely coupled little FRR stock

the flip side to this is that the steam locos will slip and i bet they slip before the gear takes any bruising-
mine will slip with 3-4 cars on a slight incline, starting on the incline
the diesel is another story

the more sensible alternative
-remove the stock huge weight under the bonnet and use a more modest weight-let it slip, and, reduce the weight the drive train has to move simply in the diesel itself
some peoplle report removing the skates really helps the loco-and does not effect electrical pick up-i would think this OK on all but dirty outside track

i think the simple answer is if you love the loco -treat it delicately and you will have very long service with no hassle or expense of finding parts

in speaking with guys at LGBOA some time back, they too were adamant about 2 cars max-despite the catalog depictions to the contrary-i presume they knew of what they spake

They look really convincing rusted like that - I've never seen it done to that particular model before.
