Hi I know someone will be able to help. A friend of mine has some MTS Locomotives but not many I am trying to encourage him to go all DCC (all none Sound) and have a few surplus Chips to pass on to him to aid his conversion to Non mTS Locomotives. My query is what Locomotives would a 55022 be suitable for? My thinking is probably his ICE Units (both ends powered so one for each end) and perhaps his Stainz. Is this a sound policy?

55022 is the small decoder, originally intended for thngs like the feldbahn locos and the cane locos like Chloe and Olomana.

55022 is a later replacement for the original basic decoder 55021 AFAIK? They will be fine for Stainz and the ICE as you posted....
Looking at the Manual Gizzy 55022 is rated at 0.8 for the motor max 1.0 amp. Whereas 55021 is max 1.2 amp.

Not quite Gizzy.
The 55021 is the replacement for the elderly 55020,These are designed for one motor locos.
The 55022 is the small loco decoder designed for things like the feldbahn locos.
The 55022 will probably run the larger one motor locos but for how long?

I stand corrected chaps!

Every day's a school day.... :)

As others have said already, the 55022 is intended for the smallest locos only - I wouldn't use one in anything bigger than a Feldbahn loco or a Gustav handcart...... one would probably drive a Stainz or similar provided the motor was in good shape, but anything like a tired motor, heavy loading or bad gradients could easily find you pushing the upper limit of the current rating for the decoder.

Jon.

Personally, I wouldn't run a standard Buhler motor off one of these..

I think the drag of a long LCE would 'kill' a pair of 55022's quite quickly? - And, if one failed, I am betting the load then placed on the remaining decoder would kill it too.

Agreed, and that too may happen if one end stalls on dirty track or a derailment.

Thanks for the anwers guys, looks like I got a load of 55022's that are of no use to me. Will need to think what to do with them. At least I have a couple of Massoth ones that he will be able to use.

They would be fine for smaller motors..

Do you know any O (or is that 0) gauge modellers?
They could make use of them.

Maybe no use to you but they are to anyone wishing to chip an LGB Feldbahn. I doubt they have been updated much and I suspect that these or their Massoth labeled version are the best for these particular locos.
