LGB Bus Cable??? Advice Please

Hi, can I pick your brains.
Im about to buy a used LGB55056 Wireless Reciever, but with no bus cable,etc.
Is CAT5 network cable the same as the LGB bus cable it would have been sold with and I can use that ok?
And will a length of Aluminium Wire/etc be ok as a replacement antennae? as lookin at the pics thats all it originally came with!
ANy advice welcome !:D

Cat5 are 8 pin connectors.

The LGB bus has RJ11 4 wired, and no crossovers, i.e. pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc.

Try Maplins for a cable, or you could see if an old telephone cable will do, once you've checked it pin to pin?

I've extended my Universal Remote Cable using a CCTV cable that a mate gave me and a RJ11 through connector....

You want LGB 55055 Chris. Brought mine 2nd hand from Glendale Junction last year. Try there or GRS for a 2nd hand one?

It should come with an aerial and a cable too.... :laugh:

re- aerial -
i bought a length of the right diameter piano wire from my local
model aircraft shop and cut it to length - rustless too -
the original rusted out due to it 'living' outside all year.
don't forget to bend a loop or otherwise protect eyes from aerial rod.

and keep it to the same length as the original. If it is the wrong length it increase the load on the transmitter and can blow components. I dont know how sensitive the 55055 is but in the bad old days of CB this was important.

Very good point Stockers. A couple of years ago I bought - cheaply - a 55055 someone had evidently tinkered with and installed a new aerial wire. It worked like a dog until I compared the aerial length to my existing 55055. A quick trim of its length to match and - hey presto - it was working like a good 'un. Size does matter. At least sometimes. :bigsmile:

While this is an old post, it saved me a ton of time today and got my wireless working. Thanks!

Gizzy,

All is well. What I was saying was that your post helped me figure out a cabling issue.

I bought a used 55056 and a cable was not supplied. I tried connecting it to the central station with a phone cable (RJ11 Jack) which had a cross-over in it. After reading your post I learned that I had to use a straight through wiring.

I now have wireless working for the 55015.
