The Buckinghamshire Garden Railway Society (Affiliate member of the G Scale Society) exhibits its modular layout in a number of different configurations with its USP being that, despite the layout being portable, it is fitted with overhead catenary.

Sometimes the layout is operated as an Electric Railway and, in this format, is normally operated digitally, using LGB MTS3, and LGB/Massoth wireless handsets. The most recent outing in this format was earlier this month, at the London Model Engineering Exhibition, held in the Great Hall at Alexandra Palace.

Sometimes the layout is operated as an Electric Tramway and, in this format, is almost always operated as a simple analogue layout, with LGB 5006/5007 combinations at the three or four fixed operating positions. The most recent outing in this format was in December 2019, at the National Festival of Model Railways held in the Arena Building, at the East of England Showground, in the outskirts of Peterborough.

Although we hope that the paying public at the Peterborough exhibition was unaware (because we were able to run some radio-controlled trams with onboard batteries to "plug the gap"), we had a failure of one of our 5007 units (and had no "spare" to substitute for it). Initially it would only drive trams in one direction (of limited use on an end-to-end layout!) . . . and then packed up altogether.

This plea for help falls into three parts:-

> Does anyone have an internal wiring diagram for the LGB 5007 (to help us try to trace the faulty component outselves)?

> Does anyone have experience of repairing an LGB 5007 (or know someone who has)?

> Does anyone have an LGB 5007 that is surplus to requirements that they would be willing to sell (ultimate fall-back, in case we are unable to repair the failed unit)?

Our next two outings are both as an digitally-controlled Electric Railway (Midlands Garden Railway Show and London Festival of Railway Modelling, both in March), so time is not exactly 'of the essence' but we have a noteworthy appearance of our Tramway layout (currently expected to be a end-to-end layout of 67 foot) at the Crich Tramway Musueum in August, so need to have everything working, and in tip-top condition by then.

Here's hoping that someone can help.

Best wishes

David

If no one else comes up with anything sooner..

I can take the failed unit off you at the MGR (The Fosse) and have a look..
