LGB 4 wire ribbon cable

A bit of a long shot but does anybody have one of these lying around in there spares box. Its a 4 wire ribbon cable with a female plug on the end. The wires are about 6 inch's long. Its for me frank S loco, the cable between loco and tender, one wire which I believe has broken. There might be similar inside locos if anybody has digitised them with a chip and taken out the old board/ wires.

Steve, the same happened to my Frankie and the wire was broken at the connector. I cut off the connector, opened the loco and pulled out some of the slack wire to make up for the bit I cut off and put on a new connector.
The ribbon simply slides into the black part of the connector then the grey part is pushed in (I did it in a vice to get parallel approach, it's a snap fit) and the grey part has little teeth which cut into the wire and make the connection.
Here's the good bit, the connectors are sold in packs of 4 and I only used 2 (didn't use the vice first time), so if you want to give it a go then PM me your postal address (which I have lost) and I will get it into the post to you.

Seeing as this seems to be a common problem with the LGB Frankies almost certainly caused by the constant bending of the wires to get the fiddly little plug into the tender (thus logically the wire breaks just as it enters the plug) I decided to leave mine permanently coupled.
Get up off the floor, I know manhandling a loco and tender joined by a wire seems stupid but I had a cunning plan. I know a carpenter.
I measured up the loco, gave him a section of track to get the distances right and he made me - a box!

As you can see the box is grooved both at floor level and underneath, the foredge is chamfered to give a gentle slope and the end slides upwards

Place the box on a straight section of track (so that's what the grooves are for underneath)

Slide open the end of the box and play peek-a-boo with your favourite loco (so that's what the grooves are for in the floor)

Draw the loco forwards gently onto the track, the tender is still hooked up and follows it out

Job done! Putting the loco & tender back in is simply the reverse operation

The box, as you can see also has a carrying handle which is useful, what you can't see is that the inside of the box has foam packaging glued around the sides to protect the loco from bumps.

By the way, if you do replace the connector note that the blue faced wire is uppermost

And finally, if like me you have to replace the tender motor (I replaced both as one wasn't working properly but I didn't know which one) it is possible to put the tender body onto its chassis the wrong way round, then when you put it all together the two motors work the opposite way and the thing doesn't move. That didn't do my dandruff any good I can tell you :wits:
