anyone know what the hose and shutoff valve is for that comes in the box?
have you got a photo of the hose? it does sound like a brake pipe if it has a shut off valve/cock?

I should imagine they are to be fixed to the monitor on the tank car, but without a look at the real thing, that is only an inspired guess.

There is a youtube video (about 23:30 into
) where the reviewer pulls the water jet out of the tank body, and the hose (and possibly the fitting immediately above it) look remarkably like your spare part . . .

So, do they leave you to fit that part yourself? Or is it a spare one in case you "wear out" the original one? Or is it a way to siphon out any leftover water before storing the wagon? Or am I just barking up the wrong tree altogether?

Hope this helps

Another thought:

The Toy Train series tankers have a connection on the side. I wonder if this hose is for one of those, and has been put in a wrong box, by someone disposing of a collection?

I have a fleet of Toy Train tankers and none of them came with a hose.

Just a cap over the outlet....

I was sure I had seen a model with a hose to connect to the outlet on the side of the tanker?

Perhaps a trick of the memory?

I have an LGB version which has a tap on the outlet, rather than a cap....
