Very nice indeed, Paul - I'm assuming you ordered this direct from Germany as usual? I've been eyeing a couple of these up from German dealers for a while, but haven't yet taken the plunge (got to convince myself that I REALLY need another KoF to go with the orange HSB one) - mind if I ask who you used?

Jon.

Thanks Paul; it's an attractive little loco (well, in the kind of ugly-beautiful way of European locos in general!) and as you say, it's excellent value for money for one with factory DCC and sound - from looking at the items promised by M/LGB for the next couple of quarters, it looks like they are going that way with quite a few locos - along with things like finally supplying all rolling stock with metal wheels, Marklin seem to be doing a number of things that LGB should have done many years ago - which I think bodes well for the future!

Jon.

Paul,

Nice views of a super little beast on your line. One of these will fit right in with my DR line. Sounds almost too good to be true at the price with Sound et all.

Question, does it include the NG Centre Buffer in the Box as do some of the Wagons and Coaches. Or will I have to Hack it about a bit?

My Kof has just arrived courtesy of Peter at Chalk Garden Rail. Having read the instructions it looks like I am going to have to replace my MTS 2 system. It is nt going to be an easy decision.

Did you take any of the decoder & electronics Paul?

Not as clear as I would like and the boards are sandwiched together.

Good shots anyway Paul and an interesting thread. Am I correct in thinking there's a basic analogue board with a decoder board mounted on top of it (well, sideways here, but you know what I mean)?

For those of us not paying close attention, what's the issue with MTS 2 and this loco/ type of decoder board?

Thanks Paul,

Looks like it uses the Marklin G1 Interface as used in the Allegra to which the new Massoth XLS-M1 and XL-M1 decoders have been designed for. Coincidently, Massoth have just released a sound file for this loco on the XLS-M1 decoder.

From my (limited) experience with the new Marklin decoders..
I would guess the 'green' board is an analogue board.. The red plug-in is (99% sure) a decoders from the chips on it, and it does look like the same interface as the Allegra..

I would presume that Marklin will be selling a decoder as a separate item, and although not specifically listed as such, it will be with sound. - That is what has happened with the Allegra, so you can buy the analogue one, and a £65 decoder to get DCC and sound!

pimp your ride eh paul..

In view of the difficulties removing the Buffers I think that I may if I get one leave the old SG ones on, putting an LGB Centre Buffer (or whatever is to hand for a New Centre Buffer) on so that it is rather like a Dual Gauge Shunter. What do you think?

Sounds like a good compromise Jon - akin to the dual buffers on (if memory serves) the Kamel on the Harz. :)

Yes that is the plan, I have converted my Kamel to look like one the ones with SG Buffers on the Harz.
