Hi Guys

OK, I've just picked up my new LGB 22412 RhB Traktor.

It's a beautiful little loco. Only a couple of points though. I have an analogue system. There is no working sound at all on the model and the cab interior light doesn't work. The other lights and the motor work just fine.

Are these purely digital functions?

Thanks in anticipation.

J

Should work on analogue, is there a switch in the cab? If so try various switch positions, there are usually 3 or 4 options.

The sound and light should work on analogue. Not all sound functions will be available but you should get the basics. As Steve said, check the switch - or check with your supplier - the sound should work.

Another thought on this, have you any other sound on board LGB locos which work OK on your Analogue system?
I am thinking in terms of amperage available, are you using a power unit with a reasonable amp. output?

I have a RHB Tractor . When sent from the factory the RHB Tractor's sound function will not work in anologue due to it being diabled . You will need to enable the sound by changing the cv . See page 10 and 15 in the instruction manual for further info

That is strange.....I use digital have done for years and have purchased several LGB factory fitted sound locos, which when received from the supplier I have always tested on analogue, Never known one not to work correctly.

Ah, but new loco's are now Marklin/LGB, not LGB..
Hence new 'features' are coming to the fore..

Has anyone else found the new loco's appear to be wired NMRA, and not Large Scale, for track polarity??

Yes , I have also been ok until now . I suspect it is something to do with the new marklin/lgb decoders fitted with mfx . In the manual that came with mine it tells you that the sound funtions come from the factory inactive for analogue function. It seems strange that they have done this .
I have also found that the sound funtions will not work probably with mts 2 .

Rather ILLOGICAL for a manufacturer to provide a sound on board loco, which will be used by at least a proportion of analogue owners ( who presumably may not have any digital access) and then expect them to enable their new purchase by changing a CV using equipment they dont own!

I am rather glad I am not looking for any Marklin produced G scale currently

Hi all,

I've been doing extensive testing on this little loco, and have come up with a list of CVs that makes it run a whole lot smoother in digital mode as well as activate the sound in analog mode. For those who use the Massoth programming software I have a file you can use to program the loco with my CVs. Unfortunately I can't get to posting them for a while but will do so as soon as I can.
In the meantime, if you want to set CV13 to a value of 32 this should make the sound work in analog mode.

Here is a link to the YouTube video showing the slow speed performance with the new settings:

Hi Keith,
I would be interested to see what you have changed, CV-wise..
PhilP.

I am god smacked that Marklin market a sound loco that is not switched on for analoge.
Reading other threads here, it also appears the MFX chip needs CVs changing to work with NMRA DCC correctly. It has also been suggested that you need a MFX controller to make the changes.
Mad!

Another problem is people think they know what (many) of the CV's do. - Especially if they have dealt with 'LGB' and (say) Massoth decoders..
So they assume CV 50 is the voltage divider for lights. - Not so on the new Marklin/MFX decoders. As an example.

Oh, and to our original Poster.. MTS2 is apparently NOT supported, nor is serial data transfer. - Possibly the same thing?

Keith, that's reassuring - tell me, is the cab interior light also switched off on analogue? Can it be switched on and off using the digital system?

Thanks

Jonothan

Hi Jonothan,
Yes you can turn the cab light on and off in digital mode, and therefore you can set it so that it is also on during analog operation. Once I get back I will look up which function it is and what value you need to use in CV13 (or CV14 if it's a higher function) so you will have sound plus the cab light.
The decoder can be programmed by any DCC system as far as I know, and you don't need to shut off MFX if you are using DCC, but the manual recommends you program the decoder to ignore/shut off the system you aren't using in case of conflict.

I have just sent a email to LGB/Marklin about this issue . It will be interesting to see if I get a reply .
Maybe LGB Dealers could offer a free service to reprogramme these locos before they are bought ?

Maybe the factory could programming them before they are sent out.

I was considering buying one of these but maybe I will now spend my hard earned on something else after reading this thread.

That says a lot doesn't it!
