Layout Short But Not A Short?

Hello, tried to run a couple of trains tonight before it got dark.
Where my power is connected to the track, the section and the section after where making a very very high and loud pitch noise.
it got louder when i tried to run a loco on the straight section after this point, soon as the loco left the section of track it ran fine, up until it came back to the section.
My Massoth 1200z was not tripping out and saying a short and there was nothing connected to or resting on the track when the noise was heard.
It has rained a lot in the past weeks and just started to dry out, could this be a problem?
What could it be?

I would guess it is moisture in a joint, causing a higher resistance.. This is 'singing' when you put a load on it.

Try pressing on each joint with something.. When the tone changes / disappears, you have found the dodgy joint.
Also check initial connections to track.

I have just remembered an old trick I have used in the past. Use a screwdriver to 'jump' each track joint or cable connection. When the loco accelerates (or the 'singing' stops) - there is the location of your problem

Yeah, I used to go round with a pair of pliers to "jump" each joint, and give the fishplate a squeeze if it needs tightening. One tool in the hand to test and fix!
