Latest Upgrade..

We appear to have had an upgrade??

Amongst other things, we have 'number of unread media items' displayed. A different colour to one of the bars (I think). Page layout is subtly different as well.

Couple of 'niggles':

1. If at top of front page (having logged in), and want to logoff.. Hover over small avatar next to PM's and drop down is to long for a 1024 x 768 display. - I can get round this by scrolling down a bit before trying to logoff, but if I forget, I loose the drop-down as I scroll. Not a deal breaker, just mars the 'user experience'.

2. Am getting a 'do you want to leave this page' dialogue, when we go from #20 to #21 etc. in threads.. So get another prompt, when going 'back' to the unread items..
I also got this when going into the 'for sale' thread, but did not at that time clock the post numbers.

I cannot log out on my small lappy - but I just leave this site and I have to log back in again if I want to see the Forum again (so it must automatically log you out unless you opt to stay logged).

I looked at some of the Media pics yesterday and, as I went through them, the number in the 'Header' decreased. However, looking at some more this morning, the number remained static. I find it a little frustrating (the indexing) for this part of the site.

Also, I wanted to comment on a pic and (my fault probably) and up came an error message. It was the same sort I experience when trying to post a pic. As Firefox is my preferred browser, I haveto use Chrome if I want to post a pic. It proved (the error message) that it was this site that didn't like me using Firefox and all the add-ons like Ad blocker (?) that are installed on my PC. Cannot find out what it is that's causing these error messages and blocking me from uploading pic. Wish I knew.

Media update ?

I am trying to upload some more photographs to my photo album in Media. An error message came up saying 'Error, Must have at least two tags'. Not being that computer literate, I am not sure what a tag is, and why should I need two? I do not recall encountering any such problem or message when I have previously uploaded photographs to Media. Is this a new problem or am I being thick and doing something wrong?

David

There is something wrong. If I look at the site on my Hudl all I get is a column of text. I have to go to home & then log in & start from there. It works OK on the lap top.

Cant comment on the other issues but the log in short cut needs to be HTTPS, not HTTP. I had this problem and now all is well with my little world.
I am sure Paul will resolve the other niggles.

There has been an update/tweak/faff-about with the software..

Looks to be a few permission problems, and perhaps the path-names have changed a bit?? - Enough to cause these hiccups.

Yes Phil - links back to older threads (which some assumed, incorrectly, were lost in the last big upgrade) now work much better. But a few niggles remain. As ever, for the few pennies the adverts return, Paul will deal with it.

Same here.

working fine with latest FireFox, AdBlock Plus and Ghostery... be sure your flash and java are up to date, although I don't know if the site uses them.

Oh, I'm on windows 10 and works fine on 4 different computers.

Greg

As I often say, "I'm an IT dunce" - all these annoying problems have occurred since No.1 son remotely (Teamviewer) "optimised" my Win 10 system. Despite repeated attempts - prompted by pleas from moi - he has not found the problem! I'll mention Flash & Java to him! Cheers Greg.

has this issue stopped?

Sorry fixed one thing and broke another, hopefully both issues now fixed.

Please always use https://www.gscalecentral.net note the https://

that means that all the communications to the web site are secure, usernames, passwords etc.

I am still not able to update photo album in Media, although others appear to be able to. I am still getting an error message stating that I need at least two tags. I do not even know what a tag is, is there still a problem or am I doing something wrong? I have uploaded photos in the past without any problem.

David

I have to say that I find the red media number annoying whilst looking at other stuff on site, could it be changed to blue or something less obtrussive. I think it a rather unnecessary addition anyway.

David,

Tags are names, so if you upload a picture of say an LGB Genesis Loco, you would put tags of LGB, Genesis, etc

Tags are a way of google helping find photos on the site, we have an issue that people are just uploading photos to the site with no descriptions whatsoever, this is marking the whole site down on google as having poor content.

So, even though the pic you are uploading has a file name on your PC (or whatever), are you saying that name is insufficient by itself?

And another matterr regarding secure site; what are all the robots doing trawling this site? And, indeed, what are these robots and who are their masters? I only ask out of curiosity as I lag behind the technology of the internet!

1. This am onto site.. Go to Coffee lounge for today.. Say 'good morning', and hit post.. Get the 'do you want to leave this page dialogue..

2. Robots (also known as 'spiders', I believe), are the tools of the trade of the search engines etc. They crawl around websites, indexing content, to assist us to find things in the future.
All part of the automagicness to help us wind-surf the Interweb.

3. Regarding tags..
Remember we are dealing with computers here.. just takes a second, or so, to add a couple of words to help with 'indexing' (finding 'stuff') for later on, and if it helps the site get higher ratings with Google, then we might get more people finding, and joining, the Forum.

Everything now appears to be back to 'normal' from my perspective, can now post photos to Media again, without any issues. Will endeavour to take on board comments on Tags, Many thanks.

All of my photographs loaded to my albums in Media are now flagged with multiple tags.
