Thanks for the heads-up on this, just got SWMBO to buy it for me as a Birthday pressie (means I won't get to read it till next month, but what the heck!).
Edit: have since found that there are still new copies available from various places, but once they've added p&p the price comes out very much the same, so still happy with it especially as I didn't have to pay for it!

Yep I picked up vol2 at a show and was asked three times between his stand and ours where I got it.
I've read most of Halfway to Heaven and the Iron Sherpa volumes are there to follow, unfortunately I can't see me having space or money to recreate it using the lovely Roundhouse models. It would make a stunner of an exhibition layout though . . .

I've seen a few DHR-type locos kitbashed from LGB chassis and parts, some (it has be be said) rather better done than others....
Just a rather odd thought.... has anybody actually tried (and/or succeeded in) converting a live steam model to electric power? I know that one or two manufacturers (Accucraft?) offer both live steam and electric versions of some of their locos, but has anyone taken a live steamy (maybe a damaged or faulty one?) and made it into an electric version? I guess there might be all sorts of problems with power pickups and isolating stuff from other bits, many of which could I presume be got over by going with battery rather than track power.
Just a wild idea to chew over, though I'll now probably be accused of heresy by the LS fraternity, and have them hunt me down with pitchforks and meths-burning torches.....

It's not so difficult if you had one with insulated wheels, the main issue is you'd have to replace the boiler with a dummy one to make room for a motor and gearbox. Things like the pistons would have to be modified, prob by leaving just the rod, so that they'd work using normal oiling as you'd lose the steam fed lubrication for the piston disc. Axles etc can be oiled normally. You just have to remember it would need regular oiling as it's all metal surfaces compared to LGB's occasional need.
I've considered it but it's probably cheaper to get one built in plastic by someone on a suitable chassis. There's been a nice one done on a Stainz chassis and one of the smaller A class on an Otto chassis, I've got a half built A class in 7mm O16.5 on a Bachmann Porter which is similar to the Otto.
