I have gone to the dark side of battery power!

Having been convinced of the benefits of converting my elderly Stainz to battery power, I thought you might like to see the results. So thank you to Kevin Theobald for an excellent job done. This means that I can easily run the Christmas carriages this year for an extended period of time without the pain of track cleaning.

I went to Q&B to buy some battens for my hatches but they'd sold out! Hope the railway survives St Jude's Storm!

Looking good! What system have you used? Do the wires from the loco suggest the 'works' are in the coach or is that for lighting?

BTW - Was it Gordon the Gopher or Sweep you invited to the inaugural run? (@ 3min 50s) - http://youtu.be/3hdMZZQF_sU?t=3m49s

The system is indeed in the coach. Mr Theobald has forbidden me from divulging the workings of his 'pat pending' system!

Its all rather good though!

Tranquility and simplicity! Like it!

To quote Vic Smith, "Welcome to the dark side". I made the switch to battery power three years ago and have not looked back once.

Excellent. We look forward to Mr Theobald divulging his workings in due course.

batteries that have a tag welded onto each terminal, so that they can be soldered together for non heat generating contact

on here for example

Lovely bit of video and a very good idea to have something to run in the Winter. We spend enough on our models so why not extend their use for an extra few months? I have converted a couple of locos-the next stage is to see whether I can control them while sitting in the warm in the conservatory. I don't care if I am a wimp.

You could always adopt my elcheapo DIY R/C solution; http://www.gscalecentral.net/controls-signals-and-electronics/repackaging-a-commercial-radio-control-transmitter/
