Hi folks,

I going to visit HSB during october. Actulaly I have only one day - Saturday.

What is must to do/see/expirience/try during this visit?

- In my list - Wernigerode Bw photo hunting, may be viting a betriebswerk, then ribe to Broken, and other ends of the network.

May be steam engin cab ride... what else?

Then what?

Allow time to watch a Train or two Departing Wernigerode Westerntor towards Broken, over the Road and along the side Street just after.

A little time spent at the Junction is also worthwhile (Drie Annan Hohne) especially if you can make it when there is a Train from Nordhausen Present as there could be 3 Trains Present if you are lucky.

Have a great trip.

Doubt you'll find a way to get round the whole system in one day and do photo stops, there's a lot there ;) I know Steve and Stockers did the trip and I think they found a standard Gauge train to Quedlinburg was the easiest way to get the Selketalbahn in when based at Wernigerode.
As Jon said there's the three train meet at Drei Annen Hohne and an early or late visit to see the locos on shed at Wernigerode is very atmospheric. Not sure how you'd get a cab ride but they may have a footplate experience? Certainly a ride up the Brocken on the front coach will allow you to hear the loco really working.

Thanks. Cab ride is possible and costs some money, price on the hsb site.

I ll try to get as much as possible.

The system is quite big and you cannot see it all in just one day, in fact we didn;t see it all in 3 days.
Depending on what time your around in Wernigerode, I would suggest taking the 11.55 train through to Eisfelder (this will give you time to look around Westerntor in the morning) This train is steam all the way and normally has a loco change at Drei Annen Hohne (loads of photo opps) It normally has the open Cabrio car on the train, great if the weathers nice, not soooo good if its raining (don't ask how I know) Return back to Drei at 14.08 on the same train. At Drei take the 15.51 up the Brocken arriving at 16.52, you then have a choice of trains back to Wernigerode from the Brocken at 17.07,17.49 and 18.31. That would be my suggestion for one day on the HSB.

Sounds a good plan to me Nemo.

Have a look here - our photo report from 2014 trip

Well, I did it.

It was qute exiting.

Herebelow brief report.

We have arrived at late Friday evening.

We stopped in Weisser Hirsch hotel (http://www.hotel-weisser-hirsch.de/) right at Marktplatz. Good hotel, with its own parking, right in the center. 2 minutes walk to HSB Westerntor station.

Plan was to walk around historical center, then got to Miniaturenpark and then take a ride on HSB train by rout "Wernigerode" - "Drei Anen Hohne" - "Brocken" and back. And then visit castle on the hill.

Photos form Miniatirenpark (http://www.wernigerode.de/de/miniaturenpark.html): https://picasaweb.google.com/113335727717427282735/MiniaturParkWernigerode?authkey=Gv1sRgCOyj6uSo7I_hUw
We were tide in time to leave the town at 6 p.m. latest. So we were prety fast.

We walk from hotel to miniature park about 40 minutes, then sit in thrain and go to aimed stations.

There was a "window" in time scedule at Drei Anen Hohne to observe a dampfloks live on this small station: several consists had arrived and departured, lokomotives were served with water, so it was realy nice.

Then we have returned to Westerntor station, took a lot of pictyures of rolling stock.

For castel it was no time, unfortuantely.

Sounds like you had a great time Dima. Got any pictures you can post on here of the HSB, locos and rolling stock....
