HSB Trip Momento

Hi Gavin

Have a look at youtube of Mark Knoffler with Royal Scots Dragoon Guards playing "Going Home"- will of course depend on how you find the pipes- but I think its great. Cheers

Do what we do, break the trip down into small blocks..... like Wellington, Sydney. LA, London (train through Europe), Rome, Dubai, Singapore, Melbourne, Wellington. Nothing more than 12 hours, or so, in that lot.

12 hours is a good flight, a couple of feeds, a few bevies, at least two movies, then you're ready for a snooze. Getting pretty adept at those audio channel things. I can usually pick up a good tune appropriate to the occasion... except on Emarites when leaving Rome....searched every one of Dean Martin's 137 tracks, and they didn't have Arrivadirci Roma, so, I settled for Dire Straits "Going Home" (well, I was, in a way).

It sounds like the Ballerina too. the 2-10-2 exhaust is different, more muffled.
Yes it's a bit more staccato but it sounds more like a real engine than the old LGB file does. I can't tell how different the new mfx file is from Ralph's video. When you switch on the load dependent sound on the older chip it sounds really odd. The lgb file was on or off it had no pickup or die away so they sound good at speed but there's no sharper bark accelerating and they chuff to a stop. If you have the load dependent sound on slowing to a stop is punctuated with random chuffs unless you put in a load of braking time and that's then hard to control for some.
There are plenty of similar sound profiles to choose but none have the HSB hooter whistle so you'd need to drop in a separate whistle file which is more complicated.
As I say there should be a dedicated 2-10-2 file soon :)

Not sure of it will happen, but hope it does. One of the very noticeable effects that the 2-10-2's have is the way the Safety Valve just explodes for a short burst very loudly. I have not heard this on any Model as yet and hope that it is incirporated to any Sound Project for the beasts.

Does tend to wake you in the middle of the night if you stay at the Altora just by Wernigerode yard.

Yes but what a way to be woken up even from a deep sleep, never tire of the sound of a Shed nearby. My lifelong sadness is that I never managed to hear a Steam Depot with all the Whistles going off at Midnight New Year. Closest I have made is the Grand Parade at the end of a day at Statfold Barn.

And in the early evening all the trains return from the Brocken. A cold beer on the terrace - excellent.
