HSB Trip Momento

I really did try to make do with a fridge magnet to remind me of my recent visit to Wernigerode but it didn't quite capture the essence of the trip. So I made this short video.

This is my first ever video of anything with a phone, so please don't be too critical (and apologies in advance for the deep breathing...). It's also my first attempt to upload a video to the forum so hopefully I've done it right.

Best wishes
Phil

Talking of mementos, I liked the California Zephyr so much, I bought the train (in N scale.... don't come in G).
I'd love an LGB Allegro railcar set, it comes in G, but it costs more than I paid for my world trip to ride on it.

Whilst I doubt my health will ever allow me to take on the challenge of a world trip, I really would like to try and get to New Zealand and ride the steam hauled trains that go to Arthur's Pass. However, the cost of such a vacation would no doubt mean that i really would be restricted to a fridge magnet as a memento!

Fantastic railway, great video. Many thanks for posting.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Like most of us I find there's always something more to do on the railway, and having to have a new fence wiped out some shrubs and a tree so things look a bit higgledy piggledy in some places. But as long as I can run trains I'm happy.

That's a damn good film. I've posted alot of videos on Youtube and some are not up to your level of photography.

Nice Vid, what vintage is the 2-10-2, I rather like the Short Whistle. Sounds so much more like the Short Hoit that you hear in the real thing. Looks like I may need to investigating updating the Sound Chips on my 2 Harz 2-10-2's.

A good value Momento would have been the Key Ring with the Guy and his Green Target waving Trains away. I got one this Year and am already wishing I had got 2 more.

Nice video - lovely line! I like how the track seems to flow with great effect - it looks great.

Come on out to visit us in NZ. We might be able to arrange some locals to show you the sights and a bed (certainly at my place) :)

Do what we do, break the trip down into small blocks..... like Wellington, Sydney. LA, London (train through Europe), Rome, Dubai, Singapore, Melbourne, Wellington. Nothing more than 12 hours, or so, in that lot.

12 hours is a good flight, a couple of feeds, a few bevies, at least two movies, then you're ready for a snooze. Getting pretty adept at those audio channel things. I can usually pick up a good tune appropriate to the occasion... except on Emarites when leaving Rome....searched every one of Dean Martin's 137 tracks, and they didn't have Arrivadirci Roma, so, I settled for Dire Straits "Going Home" (well, I was, in a way).

It's the 26814 that came out earlier this year I believe. I did have some minor challenges in programming the MFX decoder to reduce the sound level to "neighbour friendly", but since I did that, the track magnets started triggering the short whistle. The long whistle works off F1 but is a toggle (as I found out accidentally and much to the amusement of my family). I'd like to get the bell triggering off a magnet as well, but that's for a winter's day when I can't run any trains.

Thanks. Two of the by-laws I had to abide by when constructing the layout were - it had to follow the borders of the lawn and "I don't want lots of long straight bits". The "wiggley woggley bits" have been a great hit with visitors.

New Zealand would be my first choice for a long haul non-US vacation (we have relatives and friends in several states so generally end up going there for longer holidays). If we do head east I'll let you know.

An RhB Austin Allegro, the mind boggles ;)

Jon if you've got the older 2-10-2's like me I'd seriously consider changing to ESU to get the better chuff and cutoff sounds than the factory chips :)

OK, fat finger spelling mistake....

Way back, I forget what year, I planned to buy the Allegra, when and if it was ever produced. I even had my name on a list with one of the suppliers, to be notified as soon as they were in stock. I got tired of waiting and it's a go

Paul, that sounds like a plan. What Decoder Model and where best to get them so that I get the correct sound please?

It sounds like the Ballerina too. the 2-10-2 exhaust is different, more muffled.
