Gone as far as I can with my Mannesmann Container Truck. Managed to find the next best thing for a perfect colour match with a blue aerosol from Homebase. Will post a pic tomorrow when the paint is dry.

Now would like to signwrite it. Can do the logo using stick on vinyl but i`m stuck on the font style. Does anyone recognise it????

you piccie is a bit small to read the font clearly. I suggest you play with something like

www.identifont.com

I've used this in the past to get a match to a font I needed.

My guess would be 'Eurostile Next' but with the vertical height compressed slightly, assuming this is the big German engineering firm.

Yes Martyn, that does appears to have the right style of C and G if not quite the same proportions. The R isn't quite right though, but a pretty good first guess I reckon!

Maybe Eurostile Next Extended ?

I just did a quick search to see if there was a 'Font Identifier' as an app. Nothing found, looks like an opening in the App Market if anyone would like to make a few bob. Can see plenty of Commercial need for one.

Yes, I think the extended gives much better proportions.

My last employer, a global operation, had a massive department of colourful, overpaid, bright young things who did nothing but waste millions, changing the corporate identity every 5 minutes, but they did always produce a comprehensive branding guide, laying out colours, fonts, etc, including downloadable logos and fonts. I am sure the marketing department of Salzgitter (parent group) would do something similar, though whether it is worth enquiring, and thereby risking entering into a dialogue full of meaningless management-speak, I couldn't say! :D

Well worth an enquiry, when researching a project for a particular EuroCopter, they were fantastic with their response, posted proof copies of the original Fonts, typefaces, logo's and even the Pantone Numbers for the colours which the guys at Halford's matched and mixed perfectly, so give it a punt, as they say nothing ventured nothing gained.

Have a google for the app 'whatthefont'

It's pretty good at identifying fonts and pointing you in the direction of where to download it.

Continental businesses seem to have a keen eye for good public relations, Roly, so it's well worth a try. Interestingly, querying on LGB Mannesmann, there appeared to be two shades pf blue used at different times, a light blue as in your picture and a stronger blue, but that may be simply because of idfferent lighting conditions.

These are the pics of the container wagon.
I might just put a giant logo on each side. The smallest letters the sticker makers who can supply Eurostile extended are half and inch high.
That would make the word ROHRENWERKE too longS1950029 (640x360).jpgS1950029 (640x360).jpgS1950029 (640x360).jpg

I've just downloaded and installed Eurostile Extended font from here: http://www.fontpalace.com/font-details/Eurostile+Extended/

The Mannesmann logo is easy enough to get hold of from web site images.

I think I actually saw a version of the logo available as a vector graphic (easier to resize)
[edit]No, that was just the plain text. However, the "quarter-circles with arrow" logo should be simple enough to create using Photoshop or your favourite vector graphic editor. [/edit]

Back in the day when I was designing stuff, as a part of my living, I bought in the whole of the Adobe and Linotype postscript type 1 libraries (not cheap) as I had to have them at hand for various jobs.
There were the free fonts available but they weren't consistent enough or not complete families for precision work.
But now the 'freebies' are a lot better and some are 'dangerously close' to the form of the 'big' guys. Also truetype and then Mac OSX otf fonts has done away with having the need for screen and postscript font families.

Most big companies commission their own type but some do use 'off the shelf' solutions.
In this case 'Eurostile Next Extended' vertically compressed would do admirably.

I`ve just had a very quick play at creating the logo in my old copy of Visio 2000.  Basically I took a jpeg image from the net, enlarged it somewhat and used it as a background guide to create a vector graphic with the correct proportions,  using various concentric circles and squares with appropriate fill colours and layered in the right order to create the desired shapes.

The attached is a jpeg but as the original is a vector graphic I can resize to whatever I want without any pixelation or jagged edges, and of course change colours etc.

Thanks for all the advice and help lads...................Nick, could you do the complete logo and legend (as per Ross's previous post in grey and orange) in white on blue? I could then size it and print it on to self stick vinyl.

I'm sure I can sort something out for you.

What you need to do first is find an RGB colour chart and print it out on the same printer you'll use for the vinyl (and on the same material if you can spare a sheet), then you can tell me the closest RGB match to your blue paint and I can set the blue in the graphic to that colour.

Also give me some overall dimensions so I've got some idea what size to aim for, so you don't have to resize the jpeg and risk jaggy edges.

This is the chart I've used in the past for matching my decals, it saves a lot of trial and error!

How`s this for a first draft?  (will need re-sizing and colour correction)

Thanks for that nick, looking great!!! Had no luck with an LGB colour chart but the blue I used to paint the container matches the 3333cc blue on your colour chart.
The actual container is 190mm long and 106mm high.

Would the resolution be any better if you sent a full on sized pic via email? If so I can PM you my email address.

Right... try this one?  Size and colour set as per your spec, and I`ve increased the logo and text to sit nicely within that size.

It`s a GIF file, so smaller size yet should still be good quality.
