Tricky to know the right place to post this. I thought that as quite a few out there are interested in the Harz some interest might be generated by knowledge of these Tomes. I have bought them on varying Trips to Germany, but the latest was obtained from Ebay.DE. So if interested one can get them without that long journey.
There may be more of these Specials available, these just happen to be the ones I found. All are full of iconic Pictures and information about the Harz. Just a few notes of what each one has within it pages, all of course German Text.
1 Schmalspur-paradies Harz. Top Left. Published 3/2005.
This one keeps itself to the Metre Gauge Lines of the Harz including the SudHarz Eisenbahn. Many nice old pics as well as a good current crop. Also pics of an interesting Wood Bodied Railcar on Tests before export to Brazil. For good general coverage of the lines this is a hard one to beat.
2 Die Eisenbahn im Harz. Top Right. Published 1/94.
This tome is a general look at the Railways of the Harz Area including Standard Gauge Lines so is perhaps a little less use to the Modeller. However an interesting Picture of a 99-5901 on its side after an incident near Alexisbad, also some older pics and some of the Rubelandbahn. A definate must to do behind Steam if you ever get the chance.
3 Model & Vorbild Harzreise mit der Dampfeisenbahn. Bottom Left. Published 13/2012.
My most recent purchase from Ebay. I noticed this in No.4 and was looking for it in Gemany this Year, only to realise that it was 4 Years out of Date! Complete with a DVD this was well worth the effort to obtain. Containing many old Photographs I have not seen elswhere and a listing of Post Train workings made this well worthwhile to me. Some superb Models of the Brocken Line are also present. The DVD is available as a separate item so it may already be in your collection.
4 Harzer Schmalspur-Spezialitaten Bottom Right. Published this Year I think, no date found.
This was the best find that I have made of all these Works. It gives good information about Goods Working on the SelketalBahn, just my thing as I use Car Cards in my Operations. I am using Google Translate to understand all the Freight Train Captions and already have learned a good deal on how to get my line working with the correct Trains/Wagon Loadings. Also some interesting pages on Ore Loading Sites on the HSB with Track Diagrams included. Details of the Stahlwagen Coach a suitable candidate for a Newquid Bash. Goods workings in Wernigerode with Rollblocks. Various Timetable Reprints and finally a piece on a 750/760 mm Gauge mostly Mineral Railway near Lauterberg. A packed Tome that I would not have missed for the world.
Hope this little review helps with your Harz Modelling needs for information and where to get it. There are of course Books and I may do a short list of these at some time.
