Hartland Coupling Hooks

I am looking for a couple of the hooks for these wagons please?

They are similar to the LGB hook (and loop) coupler and are compatible in use.

I like to have hooks at both ends of my stock and I've recently acquired a few of these bogie vehicles which are ideal for R1 curves....

Sadly the HLW hooks have the spring built in as a strip of plastic in the moulding. In time, and not a lot of that, the strip breaks and the hook droops. I have several wagons out of use for that reason and have searched in vain for spares. Perhaps HLW direct

Looks like I'll have to replace these with LGB hook and loops.

I will have a look and see if it can be done easily....

I have a rake of the little HLW hoppers, I found the springs to be too stiff so I removed them and glued some old hex nuts to the lower back of the hook mouldings to create counterweights. In this way they work like the Playmobil weighted hooks (which I love).

These are the bogie wagons Nick.

I have acquired six vehicles recently, and I like to have hooks on both loops with all my stock.

I will have a look at some point to see if I can swap the HLW ones for LGB versions....

Yeah, my comment about the counterweights was more for Jeff's benefit for the case where the springy tangs break.

I have a couple of HLW bogie wagons, I notice the tang has broken on one of the coupling hooks as Jeff described.
The whole coupling unit is removable of course but the chassis screw hole has a large boss that would need to be reduced in order to fit an LGB, Bachmann or Aristo hook'n'loop by the look of it.

[edit]
Actually, seems the HLW unit as a whole is 2mm thicker, you'd have to fit an equivalent thickness on top of an LGB unit to get the height of the loop to match.

yes, I noticed he's listed as an international dealer on hlw website. Let's hope he can source some spares.

Had a reply and he tells me the hooks are not available from HLW.

So back to Plan A and see if the LGB hook and loops will fit in place....

Had another look at these wagons this morning.

I could fit LGB Hook and Loops with a little bit of modification.

I also had a look at the hooks though, and it suddenly dawned on me that it might be possible to 3D print these.

I know nothing of this new technology, but if anyone here on the forum can assist Jeff, Nick and myself, could they PM me please?

Meanwhile, I have now contacted HLW direct to see if they can help....

An update;

I can order spare hooks directly from HLW for $1.50 ea.

I have asked Jeff and Nick if they require any so I can place a bulk order.

If anyone else would like some, please get in touch using the Conversation feature....

An update on this thread?

I received Qty 10 hooks and loops from HLW today.

I only actually need about 5 of the hooks, so if anyone wants any spares then please contact via PM (conversation)....
