Anyone else spotted this on Gscalenews recently? (look at the entry for 10/4/2011)

I can't find any other information on it (or the prototype) but thought it might be of interest. I'd certainly consider something like that to simulate the OBB transporter wagons used on the Waldviertelbahn near the Czech border.

Re:piko 'rollwagon' - transporter wagon?

Very similar to the transporter wagons currently used on the Harz. For a unique item of rolling stock £420 for 4 wagons is not too bad. With the ore hoppers (G3 I assume) the price goes just over a grand for 4 - a bit steep but a lovely and unusual product.

IGNORE me! I've found the answer...

It transpires the picture is a Piko wagon on board a 'rollwagen' available from Grootspoor...

It's a LGB car..:)

The rollwagen is available from Grootspoor indeed, the car is LGB but Grootspoor changed the wheel spacing to 62mm instead of 45mm to make a prototypical meter gauge load.

I mentioned the PIKO Camel because the Camel usually carries some rollwagen with meter gauge cars on it.. :)

I think the pricing is in Euros Alan so it works out around £370 for 4 (around £92.50 per wagon). Now that seems a bit steep to me for a few simluated girders mounted on a couple of bogies, but as you say it's an unusual prototype, and Grootspoor do have to recover their development and tooling cost I suppose.

I'd like a couple but I think I'll scratchbuild em.

True - its in Euros.
If you look at the detail on the rollwagons I think they are a little more than girders. There are mud splashers, locking devices for the piggyback wagon and brake detail amongst others bits. And yes - as you say development costs for what is probably a low turnover model.

Re:piko 'rollwagon' - transporter wagon?

According to the blurb Grootspoor.
And Grootspoor say it's metal, hand made and delivered with coupling bars but without special Harz 'funnel' couplings needed for the camel.

So who actually makes this Rollwagen, Piko, TrainLine or Grootspoor?
Rollwagen = available at Grootspoor
Car on it = LGB model, customised by Grootspoor

The "girders" comment was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek mate, I appreciate that there's a bit more to em. If as Puggy says they're metal and handbuilt then that sort of explains the price tag.

Re:piko 'rollwagon' - transporter wagon?

It does:

Quick translation:

Metal coupling bar, 15cm length. One side fits to 'rollwagen', other side fits to couplings of all brands (PIKO, LGB, TrainLine..). You can even use it with LGB's uncoupler track.

But I'm sure that if you are really interested in buying some rollwagen with load, Grootspoor will help you with making a list of what coupling bars you need.

For the avoidance of future confusion could one of the MODS possibly change the subject heading to Grootspoor instead of Piko?

Done. :D

Thanks chaps - this model looks wonderful. I'm going to put it TOP of my birthday list. I'd only be buying one model, and it's not much more than a brand new LGB bogie wagon!

I think you need the long coupling as well James. These wagons (the originals) dont couple up close - they use the long bar as shown above.

Alan - it does look a little cheaper - the Grootspoor price RTR is 149Eur, this chap is doing the same one for 120Eur - although I can't tell if it's a kit, or made up?

I'll drop Grootspoor an email in the next few days with some questions about the model, what comes with it, what you need extra and some more details on compatability with LGB hook and loop couplings.

you want transporter wagens then try http://www.strauss-modellbahn.de < Link To www.strauss-modellbahn.de they do two sizes and various kuppelstange for connection to pufferwagons they also make standard gauge wagons but I prefer those supplied by Franks Gartenbahn http://www.fgb-berlin.de < Link To www.fgb-berlin.de if you want austrian wagons try lotuslok station for an alternative try magnus http://www.magnusbahn.de < Link To www.magnusbahn.de who make proper Harz rollwagons and rollbocke and a range of standard gauge trucks talk to Nils but watch your money go
