Goods on the PLR

Having spent a couple of weeks finishing off my freight handling program, the weather today persuaded me it was time to try it out for real.

Manning Wardle 0-6-0ST Harthill was on freight duties. Here she`s distributing the stock around the system ready for the starting freight handling


On her way to Bickerton, the last station on the line.

Day`s end, shunting the stock back into the garage


I find that using the program to generate trains gives me some interesting shunting puzzles to solve and sometimes creates a mix of stock which I wouldn`t have otherwise considered.

I am sure your line is just as characterful as this one. It is just you see all the niggling little things you feel could be better.

Nothing to do with my gardening skills - the garden faces North and is shaded by the house so most of it rarely sees any sunlight.
Mind you, it's taken about eight years to mature into this state of carefully nurtured neglect.

Love that wee bridge! Just spent ages staring at that last piccie wondering what was odd about it - now realised it's the loco piston & guides not lined up with the centre of the driving wheel it's connected to? I always understood that was a requirement on the real thing for smooth running and maximum efficiency?

Thanks Nick - I'd not appreciated that fairly obvious piece of mechanics. When I installed the cylinders, I had to make a few compromises to cater for the slight variations in the dimensions of the motor block compared with the original - the angle of the cylinders was based on the original rather than the block. I'm hoping a shift of the angle of the cylinders will be quite straightforward (how many times have I said that in my life?) so next time she's in the workshop I'll give her a tweak.
