I have heard a whisper in my shell like that Brian at Glendale is thinking of retiring by the end of the year, anybody heard anything,,,,,my normal supplier,oh dear:sweating::sweating:

They announced that sometime last year in one of their regular emails. No deadline given but they are starting to think about all the options including the sale of the shop.

Yes, it's no secret - they want to retire, and are willing to sell the shop either as a going concern along with the house, or just sell the business to be relocated, or pretty much any other option that anyone wants to make a sensible offer on.... but they will carry on as normal (albeit with reduced opening hours, as announced a little while back) until such time as they get someone who is serious about buying it.
It's quite a brave move in a commercial sense to put this out in the public domain, but I think they're going about it in a very sensible way, keeping their options open and seeing what comes along....

Jon.

Ditto what Jon said , I was talking to them Friday about this.

I was also aware of this, will be sad to see them both leave the trade. But they will both be able to enjoy a well deserved retirement and visit some of the local lines to boot.

Oh well,a shame yes but will still use them until the end, let`s see what transpires;););)

Nice couple have bought from them in the past.................try to call in if i,m in that neck of the woods...............hope they enjoy their retirement.............lets hope somebody takes on the business................:)

East Anglia, and even the Eastern edge of the Midlands, is, in general, a large-scale train desert. There is, I'm told a dealer of some kind over near Snettisham [Sp?], but apart from that, if it's large scale trains you seek, you've had it. A good drive away from where we live, in rural Cambs, lies Princes Risborough and Garden Railway Specialist [morning, Matthew], and that's about it.

Sure, you can buy stuff via the internet, but you can't sit out in the backyard and watch your new loco running like you can on the Glendale layout.

Having been a customer since the days that they were selling out of the garage, I'll be very sorry to see them leave the trade, and wish them all the very best of luck for the future.

Snetterton Park Models, on the A11 between Thetford and Attleborough, and next to the motor racing course, closed a couple or three years ago, following the passing of its owner.

I don't know of any dealer near to Snettisham, to the north of Kings Lynn. Rhinochugger will confirm this, as he lives close by.

Garden Railways Limited in Bishop Stortford and (dare I say it?) ECR in Yarmouth would appear to be our next best options for East Anglian G Scalers. Limited amounts of G scale can be found at the Model Junction in Bury St Edmunds and ScogRAil in Ipswich....

Thanks for the update. I DID note that I wasn't sure if it was Snettisham or whatever.

Tac, there is a privately owned 7 1/4 inch railway at Snettisham, which opens 3 times a year during the summer for local charities. Based on Yugoslavian NG, but anyone familiar with Austrian Railways will recognise the locos and rolling stock....

Any ideas when they are opening this year please Gizzy? Having read the Keith Chester NG books on Yogo I would be very interested in a visit.

Not at the moment Jon, but I will let you know once I find out....

The openings are usually linked to charity events. Pretty certain the Lions do one in August.

Norton Hill - there's no dates on t'internet yet.

Looks like they have an FB page...............

Wow, 1Km track, eh? That's almost 0.74 of a mile, the kind of distance measurement in common use here in UK, right?

I might be making a visit there, if we are not in Canada or the US, obviously.

Now, while we are gassing about European NG, can anybody point me at the real-sized NG line somewhere up North that looks like it operates Austrian/German style locos and rolling stock?

It looks like it's mostly in a forested area, and from what I recall on the ten-second clip on the news at the time, totally beautiful.

TIA

Are you thinking of the South Tynedale Railway?

THAT's IT!!! Many thanks indeed for that. I'm just watching it on mrs tac's laptop - what a gem it is!

Thanks again.

Rather a nice NG line but tricky to get to without a car. On my list "to visit" but will probably be associated with a Road Trip oop norf.

Nice bit of thread drift Tac.
