A way to make glad hands in an emergency. Looking at some spare stock of GRS hand rail stanchions I thought....... hmm could I make replacement glad hands for some of those that have dropped off into the ballast ? Well........

Take one GRS white metal hand rail stanchion and place in pin chuck.

If we take shank is at 9 o'clock then make cut with razor saw between 4 and 5 o'clock.

Open out gently with needle nose pliers, the white metal on the ones I have is soft enough not to fracture.

Remove shoulder with scalpel blade.

Now shape and smooth of with and emery board (300- 500 grade) on the outside. Also a little work with a minature round and flat file on the insides. Et voila, the finished article.

Finished articles in situ.
Probably a bit small for most 1:20.3 but should look ok of 1:24 - 1:32 models.

Short ones with 1.6 mm hole . Stock item at Garden Railway Specialists. Still going to contact the Bachman about some larger ones for their Spectrum stock Richie.

Marvelous bit of ingenuity there!
I thought they were brake hose ends....
