Has anyone on here visited this railway? I am looking for info on what is best, what to expect, anything special etc. I'm not guarranteed to visit it but there may be a chance. I have looked at the website, I was looking for personal experience.

I've not been Bob, but I have a hardback history/guide book issued by the railway somewhere if you're interested.

Put it like this - I've not seen a bad report of the line / experience.

Norwegian people are superb

The only note of caution - Norway is b***** expensive, and if you're tempted to buy alcohol, see yer bank manage first

And be careful of the Russians - been some trouble about them buying up islands and building helipads, landing stages and large accommodation complexes on what were purportedly to be just 'holiday homes'.

We went on a cruise package so no idea what else there is, do it though.

Highly recommended from a railway enthusiasts perspective - if you ride it try to imagine it with steam power ! It's not part of the NSB so you can't use an Interrail pass on it, though you do get a discount and NSB booking offices will sell you a ticket. Can be done as a side trip if you are travelling Oslo-Bergen (Highly recommended too). There is a nice little museum at Flam. As others have said, be prepared to take out a second mortgage for virtually anything.
