Feedback

Just an observation, to see if its a trend....

A few things I have bought of late, the seller does not leave feedback, I know its not compulsory, or have sellers stopped,
I know I leave feedback, to add to their profile/score, but its not something that some sellers appear willing to do to help mine.

Some sellers put in their description something like, "We will leave positive feedback for you, please return the favor". Or they may say, "If you have any issues with your item, please contact us before leaving negative feedback". I have had buyers that do not leave feedback. I usually wait a month or more, then leave positive feedback for those people. Most of them will then get the hint and leave me positive feedback.

Politely ask them if they could as you want to build up your score, ours is set automatically to leave it once a buyer has left theirs once we know they are happy but i know when i buy something i often forget to leave first
Hit the nail on the head - 'why should I when you haven't'. Who goes first. Seeing as a seller has got everything (money) before the buyer gets anything, my view is the seller goes first. - Doesn't always happen like that.

Well, not quite. The seller may have the money now, but if the buyer complains to ebay or paypal, they take that money right back again.

As a buyer, I try to remember to leave feedback as soon as I've received and inspected the items. As a seller, I wait until the buyer can't kick me in the nuts. Them leaving positive feedback is a pretty good indication that all is ok.

Remember also that sellers can only leave positive feedback. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some people thought that it is a futile operation if you can't record your actual experience, and just don't bother at all.

There is no incentive for sellers to leave feedback until the buyer has left positive feedback as if a seller has already got plenty of good feedback the only feedback that can make a difference to them is negative. Why help someone build-up their score then to find out they have knocked down yours, sellers can't leave negative feedback. If you are a buyer gaining feedback is no much benefit once you have got past the first few and you have access to all auctions.

Do you bother to leave feedback to someone who has already told you he is going to leave red feedback before he has paid. The reason, because I sent an email telling him his payment was overdue.
His email has been logged with ebay!
He is now claiming his parcel has not arrived. Its been waiting for him at the sorting office for a week & he cannot be bothered to collect it. Claims he didn't get a card.

I leave relevant feed back for something I have bought. I don't say hubris like "easy purchase", "great eBayer" etc that means really nothing to me if I am looking to see what sort of person I'm buying from. I leave factual relevant feedback eg "the 5mm flat top warm white LEDS are exactly as purchased" and remember using this principle you can leave negative positive feed back also eg "The item is good the seller is difficult". I have had negative feedback only once in the last 12 months, a chap claimed I had used missleading photos, my response was factual "I offered a refund the buyer refused it"
NEVER EVER leave feedback till the sale is fully consummated and I always insist on a signature, I don't know how many items get lost in the post but there must be a HUGE warehouse full of goods that never make it to me....
If you are buying use Paypal and the sellers rating becomes irrelevant as Paypal will refund your money should the goods be faulty or you get ripped off....

Mate there are some people who you will never satisfy. Even if you had hand delivered to this person for free they would have found something else to whine about....

Just got a prompt from Ebay (not seller) to leave feedback on item I bought 2 months ago. Interesting new development
Max.

Been going on here for a while.... I was advised that it was in "MY" interests to promptly leave feedback after each purchase, I responded that "I" would leave feedback when I was completely satisfied with the purchase....

In the past, if as a seller, I don't leave feedback it's usually because the buyer has been a bit of a dxxk hxxd and I do not have the negative/neutral (DGAS) option to vent my spleen. Never get a prompt for that.

I'm usually a bit more magnanimus as a buyer. But then I rarely buy on Fleabay. Last time it was because I needed a circuit board for my 25 year old boiler (not married) and this auction site was the only place to find a new/old stock one. Nice and warm here now. Better go back and say nice things about the seller :-*

Having asked the question.....

I see that I am not alone then, currently I am waiting for one, but it varies just it appeared to be most things I have bought this year,
some feedback taking over a month, so I guess that prompting thing may have something to do with that...

But seeing as my tally of items is just a tad over 100, not a big fish in the Ebay pond.....

I always leave feedback on receipt of goods but there is one thing (apart from not receiving feedback from seller) that annoys me.

When bidding for different items from one seller, when it comes to feedback, if those items are lumped on one invoice, you have (well, I suppose you don't have to) to leave feedback for each individual item whereas the seller just leaves the one for the combined invoice. Unfairly balanced I would say.
