Hi all,

A while back I aquired a ESU LoksoundXL and a ESU programmer with the intention of installing it in Thomas. I decided upon the ESU as you can add your own sounds and was intent with adding various "Thomas" related sounds just like other here on GSC.

Well fitting the decoder was childs play (well I did fall back on Cliff's thread on the subject), altering the CVs...not a problem but whenever i try to add a stock sound all I get after a little while is "Error, unable to upload sound" or something similar. I have tried several times, even directly connecting the decoder to the programmer and that still didnt work.

Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Also, to those who have added their own sounds to a ESU decoder...what software did you use to "rip" the sounds from the original? Any pointers would be great.

"Real" has some ripping software. I use it works for me. Then use your software of choice to upload on to a sound card. Alyn

Hello Mark,

Sorry don't know why you can't load the stock sound, it just worked for me. What do ESU have to say?

If you've read this thread:
http://www.gscalecentral.net/tm?m=44640&high=Thomas+ESU
then you will know what software I used to rip stuff off of DVDs.

If you want the clips I've already got in ESU format just let me know. You would need to buy copies of the DVDs I got them off to avoid copyright infringment, I believe.

We had Thomas out on Sunday for our open day, worked well, 'cinders and ashes'.

Thanks Cliff....missed the details of the software you used. Have a few Thomas DVDs here so will rip the sounds directly.

Not contacted ESU yet....will do that later/tonight.
