Ebay Rules

I have to admit that this one has got me stumped.

I'm selling some boat accessories, and have four hatches, that I thought might sell better individually.

So I listed them as a single item, saying 'four available' and listed the item four times.

I then had a message from Ebay saying that their rules for multiple listings had been infringed, and that the second item would only become visible when the first item received a bid.

A few days later I had a second email from Ebay saying that I had broken the rules by saying 'four available' as I was not allowed to advertise sales outside Ebay, so they had removed the offending words.

Now I have seen items listed with 'n available' - but only on a 'Buy It Now' - so I can only assume my problems started because I put these things on auction.

Needless to say, you cannot respond to the Ebay emails, as they're automatically generated :punch::punch::punch:

You can list any number of the same item on a single listing. There is a box where you put in the number of items available. Then when you get to the shipping part, it will automatically ask you to insert the additional shipping cost if more than one item is sold to the same person.

You don't want to hear the problems I've had, and am still having with Homeworkshop.org. They allow you to respond to Admin but then don't bother to reply. Their software is a nightmare and contradictory.

I fell out in a big way with Ebay many years ago when a sale of mine went off-line for the last two hours, so I lost all bids in that time (crucial) and they still insisted on full payment.

You did not say if you originally put the items on as an auction item or a 'buy it now'. I can see the issue. As I see it, if you put them on as an auction item, and wanted to sell them individually, you should have put them on as four individual auction items. By saying that there were four available on four auctions, the implication is that there were 4 X 4 = 16 items for sale. If you put them on as a single item as a 'buy it now' but indicated that there were four available that should have worked. Unfortunately, I think the confusion was of your own making. I have to admit that I have never attempted to sell anything on Ebay myself, my assumptions are based on my experiences as a buyer.

That's the point, I put them om as four individual items, and Ebay then would not display the duplicate listings.

Each item said, the auction is for one, and there are four available. If Ebay hadn't held the duplicate listings, it would all have been perfectly clear.

Anyhoo , they're not selling :(:(

This is a problem with ebay rules. I wanted to sell 2 similar items. First I had a message from ebay that they would not put the second on until I had a bid on the first (not much use if the bids are left until the last second). Then I had a message from a bidder that he could not find my second item.
To overcome this problem I altered the title to make it look different. I left in the bit that I was selling 2 of these.Problem overcome!

Yeah, I think it's the title that got Ebay's electronic gremlins to take notice :nod:

Good heavens, something American making up the rules to suit itself as it goes along? Never. :lipssealed:

My apologies to our U.S. members, I couldn't resist it :shake:

Watching People sell multiple LGB wagons on eBay They have put a number 1 / 2 / 3 etc in the title when they have multiple ones to sell, so each one has a different title and in the description it says see my other listings for more of these items. I suppose eBay just want to change you four times to list something :)

I gave up selling on ebay got feed up with the silly questions like can you post the Bed frame you have for sale....I would like to buy your jump leads but my car won't start can you deliver them....I would like to buy your 19" TV but the bus doesn't stop at your gate...can you bring it to my house I only live 1/2 a mile away.

?Four hatches?

'Hatches for fours..'
(Apologies to the Two Ronnies..)

You just ask stupid amount for the service - and if any one bites - enjoy.
Its all a game. Play it or don't.
Ebay only really want you if your shifting stuff several times a day!

I'm not even sure that the thinking is as sophisticated as that.

Ebay relies very heavily on automation and emanagement - there's nobody there in reality, probably just a few well-paid geeks.

Of late they've gone a bit stupid on the incessant emailing - so the geeks have obviously got a bit bored :rock::rock:

Yes, I wish they would stop sending me messages on how to sell stuff.....

You can list four separate auction listings of the same item if you have multiples, however, the heading would need to be slightly different as in adding "1", "2", "3" etc at the end of the heading. EBay will not allow four identical listings. As stated, if "Buy it Now", multiple identical tems for sale are acceptable.

I recently was chastised by eBay for apparently selling off eBay. My crime was that several months ago I ended two listings. They remained on my eBay site for relisting, however, after nearly eight weeks I cancelled the standby listings. The next day I received my chastisement email. Apparently, cancelling the standby listings raised a red flag at head office.
