eBay prices

Curious to know if eBay prices on G scale have gone up this year in the UK? Prices in general have definitely gone up in the US. I was regularly picking up bargains last year, even with pre-holiday prices. Clearly people are re-focusing on activities close to home now, driving demand. It’s good to see actually - would be nice to see the hobby strengthen again here!

I can't speak for large scale as I'm not in that market these days, but certainly the small scale listings are littered with frankly over-optimistic asking prices for second hand stuff. Could be some folk struggling a bit through Flu and reviewing their hobby. As a modeller of European N the general price of brand new N gauge has gone through the roof anyway

From my experience as a buyer over the past year ebay Auction prices are down a small amount.

for selling things so long as you set your starting bid at a sensible price it will sell but with no bidding wars.

And there is a lot of stuff sat around with very high buy it in now prices and it’s been sat there a long time and just not moving at all.

hope that makes senses

during the last four or five years largescale items know only one direction - up and upper.
before that i did buy nearly a dozen used Stainzes for about $60 on average, used LGB motorized tenders for about $90, brass track for about $3 per foot.
and now? things cost an arm and a leg.
i am afraid, that this trend will continue with less and lesser companies producing and selling new stuff.

Prior to my recent foray into G scale I was only interested in 00, the prices of new items, especially locos has risen almost weekly. The used market has for a long time been affected by specific model type or even livery, prices always increasing.
Then cam the shock of G scale, I agree less people buying than years ago, manufacturers increasing prices to cope, secondhand prices rising as a result, but, some of the prices on eBay are pure science fiction, people chancing their arm, lack of knowledge perhaps, and buyers willing to pay whatever the price.

I will say, here in the colonies, ebay shipping has become astronomical. I believe, but dont know, that ebay has made this a seller convenience and option/ profit center. It is dramatically curtailing potential purchases for me.

prices too are “optimistic “ on many but not all. I am astounded by items that are damaged being offered at almost new pricing.

otoh, with patience and restraint, there are many good values, from time to time, in g,z, and n. Pola g, not so much. Its getting much harder to obtain in the US. But again, once in a while....

There are still bargains to be had on eBay. It's just a question of patience and being prepared to play the long game. I follow the market place so I know how much I'm prepared to pay for a particular item. Sometimes it takes weeks and sometimes months but eventually the item gets listed at a price I'm prepared to pay.
I struck gold this week! I paid £26 + £5.20 postage and packing for 8, radius 5 LGB curves. I did bid significantly higher but was very lucky in that no one else put in a counter bid at the last minute. All are in good condition with no broken chairs and all fishplates intact. Needless to say I'm delighted with my purchase.
