Is there a general rule of thumb for currency conversion charge, not the actual exchange rate, with Ebay.

It's just the range I have had varies from 0 to 5 percent.....

Cheers Ross....

One quick calculation, will compare it with actual amount when it gets charged.

If there is a way for Evilly to charge for something, they will find one. Kind of like the cable company here, Comcast, or affectionately known as Comcrap. They charge fees for charging you the original fee.....:banghead:

Just like BT (British Telecom) over here..... they want to force everyone to pay by direct debit (so they can basically take what they want, when they want) rather than you simply paying them when you get your bill - so, to penalise those who won't switch to DD, they started to charge them a "processing fee" for dealing with their payment. When the Government told them that was illegal, they just side-stepped it by setting up another "separate business" which is owned by BT, but which "handles all their payment processing" - so now BT don't charge you the fee (which would be illegal) but their "payment processing company" charges you the fee (which is sort of legal, though definitely not ethical)......
Anyway, I'm in the process of moving my line and phone service to the company that handles my broadband - which is NOT one of the "big boys", it's small enough to still give good personal service (oo-er missus) but big enough to be reliable - so BT can finally go and **** themselves as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry for the little off-topic rant, putting the soapbox away now..... ;)

Just to give an on-topic comment so this post isn't completely futile, I've noticed several times that the "helpful estimate" conversion evilBay gives you on-screen when you're deciding whether to buy something is invariably better than the one they ACTUALLY give you one you've committed to buy it....

Jon.

I hope you're not moving to PlusNet Jon, they are just BT in another guise.

Nope, Timico. Been with them for internet for many years, they are helpful, contactable (no waiting in endless queues or going through automated systems for tech support, just phone the direct number (free!) and talk to the same engineer you spoke to before, who will actually fix your problem.....) and have given great service in my experience. Not the cheapest in the market (by their own admission) but you get the service you pay for..... :)

Jon.

I'm with EE, who WILL be BT! Dohhh!

<off topic> Have been with PlusNet for a decade as have most of my fellow IT'ers in our department. Would recommend them to anyone.</off topic>

Continuing on off topic tangent. As I have mentioned many times in the past, we are living 1984. The book that is. So much so, that everyone is spying on everyone.....:mask:

But it is harder for us to spy on those who are spying on us! Good old George Orwell. Ever since the Domesday Book or even the Ides of March.

We have BT here (yes, even in the Republic!). The're all a bunch of rip-off merchants! Think you've got it bad in the UK? Try over here.

So does the entire planet.....I covered the camera hole on the top of the screen of my desktop computer. I read somewhere that Big Brother can still see you even if you haven't activated FaceTime.....:mask:

BTW.....for that who may be interested 73 and a bit euros, or 50 quid with conversion charge added came to 51.52....just over 3%
